Music news From North Texas State University
Marceau C. Myers, Dean OCTOBER 1975 David Kuehn, Frank Mainous, Assistants to the Dean
A Letter from the dean
Dear School of Music Exes-
This past year has been a very
exciting and rewarding one for me
both personally and professionally,
and I cannot begin to tell you how
much I have enjoyed my involvement
with North Texas State University
and the School of Music. It has been
very gratifying to work collegially
with everyone associated with the
University-students, alumni,
faculty, staff and administrators. The
School of Music is a very impressive
place, and it is a very pleasurable
experience to be able to observe so
many talented and dedicated persons
striving toward excellence and
producing so much beautiful music.
I hope you like our new newsletter
format. The newsletter is planned as a
quarterly, so you will be receiving it
four times a year. Incidentally, the
drawing on the masthead is an artist's
rendering of the New Music Building
which we hope will be under
construction by January. Also, we
will be moving into the restructured
Quads (which will have the same
architectural style as the New Music
Building) during the second semester
this year. The two Quad buildings will
contain 285 practice rooms, several
office-studios and a student lounge.
We desperately need this space, as our
enrollment is up again this year. We
do not have an accurate count as of
this date, but most of us are
estimating the enrollment will be
somewhere between 1,350 and 1,400!!
One of the hallmarks of the School
of Music continues to be the high
quality of musical performances
presented by our musical ensembles,
and there were two rather significant
events which underscored this fact at
the end of the academic year. AnshelS, '
An architect's rendering of the new School of Music complex was unveiled in May at the
annual Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Day Luncheon in Denton. Present for the unveiling were
the four deans that the School has had since its founding. From left, they are Drs. Kenneth
Cuthbert, Marceau Myers (current dean), Walter Hodgson and Wilfred Bain.Brusilow and the NTSU Symphony
Orchestra received the NTSU
President's Award in the spring for
their oustanding contribution to the
University, and the Texas State
Senate passed a Resolution (S.R.
No. 600) commending Leon Breeden
and the 1 O'Clock Lab Band for their
contributions to the State of Texas.
You may want to plan to attend some
of our concerts and recitals this year.
I know that many of our programs
will provide a rewarding, musical
experience for you. (The Newsletter
will carry a calendar of selected
concerts and recitals for your
information.)
I hope I will have an opportunity
to meet each of you in the near
future, either on the campus, or at
any of the many conferences,
conventions or association meetings
where our paths are sure to cross. Also, please let us hear about your
activities so that we may print them in
the Alumni News section of the
newsletter.
Sincerely,
Marceau C. Myers
