Comparing this dean to a used car, we would point out that,
while the car is only a few months old, it has a lot of miles on
it! A special thanks is due to those of you who attended the
receptions and have invited me to visit them. I am nearing the
3,000 mile mark in travels to see you so far. Of course, this
does not count the "virtual" visits that I have made via two-way
video. The faculty and staff at SLIS are among the hardest
working people that I have ever seen and they have kept me
very busy. This issue of Call Number is packed full of
information regarding the many activities currently underway.
Each of you, as an information professional, is aware that our
rapidly evolving profession provides little time to tread water,
and you should expect no less of an effort from your School
of Library and Information Sciences.
In this issue, you will read about our award-winning students
and about an exciting connection to NISO. You can find out
aboutthe accomplishments of your fellow alumni. I also hope
that you will get the impression that we are expending
considerable efforts in a process of examining every facet of
our program. We are involving alumni and friends at every
stage. Through the establishment of student groups in
Houston and Lubbock and the revival of the Library and
Information Science Student Association, our students are
being brought back into the loop. The Advisory Board is
being re-formed and will meet in early spring.
Finally, and most importantly, we are inviting you to
participate in the life of the School through a newly organized
Alumni Society. Please read the lead story and decide to
commit to this organization. I have the honor of being the first
life member in this rebirth. We need your guidance and
support in these times of tremendous change and challenge.
Please let me know if I can assist you in any way, and do not
hesitate to contact me at (817) 565-2731
