Gemini Near Infrared Spectrograph–Distant Quasar Survey: Prescriptions for Calibrating UV-based Estimates of Supermassive Black Hole Masses in High-redshift Quasars

Description: Article describes how the most reliable single-epoch supermassive black hole mass (MBH) estimates in quasars are obtained by using the velocity widths of low-ionization emission lines, typically the Hβλ4861 line. The authors find that utilizing both emission lines, where available, reduces the scatter of UV-based MBH estimates by ∼15% when compared to previous studies.

Histological features of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease revealed in response to mixed vehicle emission exposure and consumption of a high-fat diet in wildtype C57Bl/6 male mice

Description: Article describes how non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently plaguing the population at pandemic proportions and is expected to become more prevalent over the next decade. The authors investigated the hypothesis that exposure to a mixture of gasoline and diesel engine emissions (MVE), coupled with the concurrent consumption of a HF diet, promotes the development of a NAFLD phenotype within the liver.

Geometry, groceries, and gardens: Learning mathematics and social justice through a nested, equity-directed instructional approach

Description: Authors of the article addressed the call for explorations of how BIPOC students’ “experiences in secondary mathematics classrooms might advance transformative, equity-focused, pedagogical models” by exploring how a nested, equity-directed approach created different kinds of opportunities for students to take up, shift, or resist what it means to teach, learn, and do mathematics. Specifically, authors looked at efforts to engage equity-directed dominant and critical approaches through a series … more

Examining the Viability of the use of Sarocladium zeae as a Biocontrol Agent in the Agricultural Production of Maize

Description: Data management plan for the grant, "Examining the Viability of the use of Sarocladium zeae as a Biocontrol Agent in the Agricultural Production of Maize." Sarocladium zeae is a fungus that naturally grows within corn and produces pyrrocidines, compounds that inhibit the production of two exogenous threats to maize, aflatoxins and fumonisins. This project aims to identify other natural products that may be produced by S. zeae through genetic modification in native and non-native fungal hosts to… more

Structural and mechanistic studies of oxalate catabolism

Description: Data management plan for the grant, "Structural and mechanistic studies of oxalate catabolism." Biologically derived oxalic acid has been shown to have a negative impact on crop production and human health. Oxalate present in plant foods can decrease their nutritional value by binding to calcium and rendering that calcium unavailable for nutritional absorption. This project will study the structure and function of key enzymes in oxalate turnover to understand their biological functions and mech… more
