Cadmium sulfide/copper sulfide heterojunction cell research. Final report, February 26, 1979-July 15, 1980

Description: Extensive modifications were made to the multi-source deposition apparatus. These include the installation of a larger vacuum chamber on the existing system. The new chamber provides improved inter-source shielding, an improved substrate mounting and heating system, and a vacuum interlock for introducing substrates. CdS resistivity control by both In doping and off-stoichiometric deposition has been investigated. Indium doping has been achieved both by diffusion from a pre-deposited In layer an… more

[Letter from Bill McCarter and Jack Davis to Vicki Rosenberg, June 30, 1993]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Jack Davis, co-directors of NTIEVA, to Vicki Rosenberg, program officer for the Getty Center, in regards to addressing some over-due responses needed by the Center. McCarter and Davis write that they support the Californian and Regional Institutes doing a super-session at the Baltimore conference, but the presentations need to be more balanced between what works and what doesn't. They also like the idea of each institute doing a follow up session, id… more

Periodic Waste Disposal System Material Balance Test. Core 1, Seed 2. Test Evaluation T-641317. Section 1

Description: A test was carried out to determine the adequacy of storage capacity and operating procedures of the radioactive waste disposal system during a normal reactor plant warmup. The capacity and operating procedures were found to be adequate. It was impossible to perform a complete material balance based on existing level instrumentation and using the data required by the test procedure. Approximately 21,290 gal. of waste were received in the system and 13,210 gal. were discharged to the river with … more

Indirect liquefaction of coal. [Coal gasification plus Fischer-Tropsch, methanol or Mobil M-gasoline process]

Description: The most important potential environmental problems uniquely associated with indirect liquefaction appear to be related to the protection of occupational personnel from the toxic and carcinogenic properties of process and waste stream constituents, the potential public health risks from process products, by-products and emissions and the management of potentially hazardous solid wastes. The seriousness of these potential problems is related partially to the severity of potential effects (i.e., … more

Bates solar industrial process steam application environmental impact assessment

Description: It is planned to install 34,440 square feet of linear parabolic trough solar collectors at a new corrugator plant for making corrugated boxes. The system is to operate in parallel with a fossil fuel boiler. An assessment is presented of the impacts of the solar energy system on the existing environment and to determine whether or not a more detailed environmental impact statement is needed. The environmental assessment is based on actual operational data obtained on the collector, fluid, and he… more
