The Arabidopsis PAD4 Lipase-Like Domain Is Sufficient for Resistance to Green Peach Aphid

Description: Article exploring PAD4 functions in plant defense by expressing the N-terminal PAD4 lipase-like domain (PAD4ᴸᴸᴰ) without its C-terminal EDS1-PAD4 (EP) domain. The authors show that transgenic expression of PAD4ᴸᴸᴰ in Arabidopsis is sufficient for limiting GPA infestation but not for conferring basal and effector-triggered pathogen immunity. This suggests that the C-terminal PAD4 EP domain is necessary for EDS1-dependent immune functions but is dispensable for aphid resistance. Moreover, PAD4ᴸᴸ… more

Perception of Falls and Confidence in Self-Management of Falls among Older Adults

Description: This article investigates the relative contribution of confidence of self-management in falls (CSMoF) in relation to fall risk self-perceptions while controlling for demographics and self-reported health and functioning. The joint effects of perception of falls and fear of falls likely explain CSMoF among older adults more than physical functional indicators. Fall prevention programs for older adults should prioritize to address modifiable subjective factors of fall perceptions, fear of falls, … more

Using Metadata Record Graphs to understand controlled vocabulary and keyword usage for subject representation in the UNT theses and dissertations collection

Description: This article discusses the use of network analysis through the creation Metadata Record Graphs to analyze the interconnectedness of subject and keywords in the University of North Texas Theses and Dissertations collection. The analysis compares overlap of controlled terms (Library of Congress Subject Headings) and uncontrolled terms (keywords), as well as the effects of basic format normalization (to simulate editing values for consistency) to evaluate how well subjects connect in the collecti… more

Genome-Resolved Proteomic Stable Isotope Probing of Soil Microbial Communities Using 13CO2 and 13C-Methanol

Description: Article describes experiment where proteomic sable isotope probing (SIP) was combined with targeted metagenomic binning to reconstruct metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) of the microorganisms producing labeled proteins. Carbon flows were tracked from 13CO2 to the rhizosphere communities of Zea mays, Triticum aestivum, and Arabidopsis thaliana.

Hypoxic level and duration differentially affect embryonic organ system development of the chicken (Gallus gallus)

Description: This article investigates how key organ systems are affected by hypoxia. The results indicated that either modest hypoxia (15% O2) throughout development, or hypoxia at any level during the late stages (d 11 to 18), increased the heart and chorioallantoic membrane weight, which partly compensated for the detrimental effects of hypoxia on embryonic development.
