Description: Recording of Robert Normandeau's Venture. Made up of six movements that refer to states of existence: Innocence, Stability, Tension, Frenzy, Violence, Serenity, preceded by an Introduction. These are punctuated by variations on an ever-present movement, Tunnel which runs through the work. The title refers to the 1960's musical group The Ventures, but also progressive rock in general. Vox mecanix

Description: Recording of Joseph Hyde's Vox mecanix. The composer wanted to work exclusively with vocal sounds, but tried to ignore entirely such things as words and sentences. Instead they decided to concentrate on ways in which the human voice communicates without recourse to the intricacies of language. Description: Recording of Antonio Doro's A Vy(...) Ma Noi Potremmo ? The title refers to a poem of Valdimir Mayakovsky: "A vy mogli by?" (But could you? (1913)). Wings of Fire

Description: Recording of Barry Truax's Wings of Fire. For cello and digital soundtracks. This work uses Wings of Fire by B.C. poet Joy Kirstin. In the work, the lover addressed in the poem is personified by the instrument which is also the source of all the material used to create the tape part. Yakiimo

Description: Recording of Neil Rolnick's Yakiimo. For shakuhachi and computer. Yakiimo means hot sweet potatoes. While the composer living in Tokyo in 1995-96, during the winter months, they'd hear the street vendor beneath our window, singing his song to sell his delicious wares. The composer recorded an transcribed a number of the songs, and use them in this piece.
