Celtic circles - I

Description: Recording of Ryszard Szeremeta's Celtic Circles - 1. It is for string plucked instruments, piano, wind instruments, percussion, and electronics. This piece uses synthetic instruments which eventually unfold into a upbeat song with a synthesizer providing a melody and the percussion accompanying. Crucifixion I

Description: Recording of Rudolf Ruzicka's Crucifixion I. The electroacoustic computer composition was inspired by Salvador Dali. The program used FORTRAN language on a PDP 11/34 computer. The output data and MIDI of the NOTATOR and LOGIC programs converted to music on the ATARI, MACINTOSH, and PC computers and realized on synthesizers. This piece is perceived as a meditative musical act.

Cuarzo (variaciones fractales)

Description: Recording of Carlos Farinas' Cuarzo (variaciones fractales). A quartz sample was used and three fractal voices were generated from a principal melodic line by Music Fractals. The principal line was exposed, as well as the fractal voices, followed by three variations of each of the program-generated fractal voices. Variations are mostly in the processing of the timbre. With the progression of these variations new harmonies are brought out with new electronic effects.

Decline

Description: Recording of John Duesenberry's Decline. This piece features "Decline", a poem by Georg Trakl. Most of the sound sources come from bird calls, the poem itself, or a six-note collection by various electronic of solo string timbres. Pairs of these sounds are combined to form new sounds which partake of the timbral and rhythmic characteristics of both sources. The work has three sections; each stanza is recited at the center of each section.

Description: Recording of Lelio Camilleri's Dedicated to you but you aren't listening. The basic material of the piece is made up of drum sounds (cymbals and snare drums) and the voice and sounds of the song by Soft Machine "Dedicated to you but you weren't listening". The attention has been focused on a few very short excerpts of the song that have been modified, but that conserve their melodic shape. The piece is structured into four parts and uses a S-550 Roland sampler.

Deuce

Description: In recording of Evelyn Ficarra's Deuce. This piece was composed using an Akai S1000 sampler and an Atari 1040ST computer. "Deuce" takes its starting point frim one basic gesture: a sound that us reiterated with increasing speed. This gesture ultimately provides the structure of the entire piece.
