Expression and Function of Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin 1 Ion Channels in the Caudal Nucleus of the Solitary Tract

Description: The article describes a study that tested and confirmed the hypothesis that TRPA1 expressed in the primary sensory afferents may modulate the function of second order NTS neurons. The expression of TRPA1 was detected in presynaptic locations, but not the somata of caudal NTS neurons that did not express TRPA1 mRNA or proteins. Moreover, caudal NTS neurons did not show somatodendritic responsiveness to TRPA1 agonists, while TRPA1 immunostaining was detected only in the afferent fibers.

A Novel Prodrug Approach for Central Nervous System-Selective Estrogen Therapy

Description: This article gives an overview of the discovery of small-molecule bioprecursor prodrugs carrying the para-quinol scaffold on the steroidal A-ring that are preferentially metabolized in the CNS to the corresponding estrogens. Treatment and Prevention of Recurrent Clostridium difficile Infection with Functionalized Bovine Antibody-Enriched Whey in a Hamster Primary Infection Model

Description: This article focuses on the development of an alternative drug for the treatment of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). Oral administration of anti-CD-WPI is a functional therapy of CDI in infected hamsters for both primary treatment and prevention of recurrence.
