Analysis of an analytical technique for distributing air sampling locations around nuclear facilities

Description: A new analytical mechanism for distributing air sampling locations around nuclear facilities, including reactors, fuel fabrication, fuel reprocessing and research centers, has been devised. This method was developed to facilitate the efficient incorporation of past experiences into environmental surveillance programs for now or developing installations. Analysis of PCRV liners by initial stress method

Description: A new method for one-dimensional stress analysis of steel liners in prestressed concrete reactor vessels is presented. The method uses a stiffness approach in which the final set of simultaneous equations are equations of equilibrium written in terms of unknown nodal displacements. The development of the method and the solution technique are described. The method is illustrated by a parametric study of the effects of liner design variables. (JWR)

Analysis of the leak-detection system for top welds of EBR-II fuel elements

Description: An analysis of the leak detector used to check the top welds on EBR-II fuel elements was performed. Data were obtained to allow calculation of volumes of the metering chamber and test chamber at each station of the leak detector. These volumes and a mathematical model were used to calculate decrease in pressure with time for each station. Values for calibrated leaks and unknown leak rates were compared with calculated ones. Analytical studies of ancient Egyptian glass

Description: Neutron activation analysis and emission spectroscopy were used to analyze ancient Egyptian glass. The emission spectroscopic method for determining Li, Na, K, Rb, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, B, Al, P, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Ag, Sn, Sb, Pb, and Bi is described in the appendix. Neutron activation was used to determine Na, K, Rb, Ba, Sc, La, Ce, Eu, Lu, Hf, Th, Ta, Cr, Fe, Co, and Sb by a method described by Tobia and Sayre at the conference. (DHM)
