Analytical Studies of the Response to Longitudinal Control of Three Airplane Configurations in Landing Approaches

Description: Memorandum presenting a theoretical investigation to determine the reasons for poor airplane response to longitudinal control. Some effects of airplane configuration on the response, primarily for short time periods, were also determined. An analytical study of the comparative performance of six air-induction systems for turbojet-powered airplanes designed to operate at Mach numbers up to 2.0

Description: Report presenting an extension of NACA RM A52C14 about inlet design and performance for Mach numbers of 1.5 to 2.0. A two-dimensional inviscid analysis is used to compare the performance of several types of inlets when used in conjunction with a turbojet engine with constant-volume air flow. Results regarding air delivery and air requirements, drag factors, evaluation of inlet performance, significance of the drag summation, and inlet and engine-matching considerations are provided.

Angular Distribution of 30.6 Mev Protons Elastically Scattered by Be, C, and Al

Angular Distribution of Fragments from Neutron-Induced Fission

Description: The angular distribution of fission fragments from the neutron-induced fission of several isotopes has been studied. Distributions were observed for thermal neutrons on U233 and U235, Lady Godiva leakage neutrons on U235 and U238, and 14 Mev neutrons on U233, U235, U238, Th232, and Np237. The Anodizing of Zirconium

Description: Five continuous coatings were produced on zirconium coupons using an anodizing technique. These layers appear to be quite adherent and not subject to visible or audible failure caused by flaxion of the basis metal, Their abrasion resistance, though not investigated thoroughly, appears to be moderately good.

Application of several methods for determining transfer functions and frequency response of aircraft from flight data

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the methods of analyzing longitudinal frequency-response characteristics of aircraft. Application of Silver Chloride in Investigations of Elasto-Plastic States of Stress

Description: Note presenting a description of the use of silver chloride as a material for photoelastic stress analysis, which offers the possibilities of studying both elastic and plastic states of stress in a crystalline metallike material on either a microscale or macroscale. Application of the Ewing Equation for Calculating Thermal Conductivity From Electrical Conductivity

Description: The usefulness of the Ewing equation for calculating the thermal conductivity of reactor metals and alloys from electrical resistance, specific heat, density, and atomic weight was investigated. The alloys investigated were Zircaloy-2, HSZA, Nb- 5.5 wt% V, Inconel, 18-8 stainless steel, and eutectic NaK. The Ewing equation was found to give calculated values with a degree of confidence similar to that of actual measured values. (auth)
