Acceleration of Polarized Proton in RHIC

Description: In this report is examined the possibility of polarized proton in RHIC collider. The issues needed for the future study is also discussed. With the improved source and AGS booster, its is expected that the luminosity for polarized beam could be 0.4*10^32/cm^2/sec at energy of 250 Gev in RHIC. There we need 4 snakes and 4 spin rotators in the collider.

Beam propagation in the frequency-converted subsystems of Nova and Novette

Description: An analysis of beam propagation for the frequency converted Nova/Novette systems is given and self-focusing effects are reviewed. It is shown that the nonlinear growth of beam modulation produced by self-focusing is proportional 1/2 exp B where B is the intensity dependent phase retardation (measured in radians) accumulated by the beam. Behavior of carbon-14 in waste packages for spent fuel in a repository in tuff. Revision 1

Description: Analysis of gas from a heated air-filled canister containing a spent fuel assembly before and after rupture of a fuel rod shows that about 1.5 mCi of {sup 14}C from the external surface of the assembly was rapidly oxidized and released as {sup 14}CO{sub 2} in excess oxygen at 275{sup 0}C and 10{sup 4}/sup rad/h. Computer modeling of piezoresistive gauges

Description: A computer model of a piezoresistive gauge subject to shock loading is developed. The time-dependent two-dimensional response of the gauge is calculated. Cost effectiveness of long life incandescent lamps and energy buttons

Description: Long-life replacement lamps for the incandescent lamp have been evaluated with regard to their cost effectiveness. The replacements include the use of energy buttons that extend lamp life as well as an adaptive fluorescent circline lamp that will fit into existing incandescent lamp sockets. Creep of 304 LN and 316 L stainless steels at cryogenic temperatures

Description: Creep behavior of Type 304 LN plate and 316 L shielded-metal-arc (SMA)-deposited stainless weld metal was investigated at 4/sup 0/K. Testing was performed at constant load in a creep machine with a cryostat designed for long-term stability. Both transient and steady-state creep were observed during tests lasting over 2000 hours.
