Atrazine Monitoring and Modeling in the Lake Lavon Watershed

Description: This report describes a study to identify the distribution and extent of areas potentially at risk for atrazine (a broad leaf weedkiller) runoff in the Lake Lavon watershed, which is a major water supply for the Dallas area. The report presents the results of the study and makes recommendations for how information can be used in a cost-effective watershed atrazine reduction strategy.

Description: Paper on the factors that affected of alternative popular music in Recife, Brazil. The contrasts between the discourses of bands, producers, and patrons reflect larger tensions in the Recife alternative music scene, which in turn point towards ruptures in the relationship between mainstream and alternative cultural production in Brazil.

Data Normalization Procedures on Decomposed MARC 21 Records

Description: In this document, the authors present some aspects of data normalization of the decomposed records to improve the results of analysis. The data normalization processes use pattern-matching techniques to eliminate and/or generalize anomalous characters and terms. Since the unit of analysis in preparing the test dataset of 400,000 MARC 21 records is a "word," there was a need for data normalization to provide reliability in the subsequent analysis.
