An 8-Matrix Theory of the Vertex p - NN Based on the Strip Approximation

Description: The present study was motivated by an attempt to understand low energy [formula] scattering within the framework of the bootstrap principle and the un-Reggeized version of the strip approximation. This work attempts to generate low energy [formula] scattering in the p(1,1) and p(3,3) states assuming the potential operating in these states is generated by the exchange of low mass meson states in the crossed t-channel and low mass baryon states in the crossed u channel. In particular, the p-meson… more

Aluminium Corrosion in High Purity Water

Description: Summary: "A corrosion test of aluminum components in a 4-ft. section of a fuel tube has been tested under conditions simulating plant geometry and, as nearly as possible, the operating conditions of water purity, temperature, and flow rate. Results: 1. None of the aluminum components, 63S fuel tube, 2S solid fillers and 43S spacers showed any corrosion effects beyond normal oxide film formation. This was carried out in flowing water, maintained at a specific resistivity greater than 1 x 10(… more

Aluminum Alloy Work at Hanford

Description: Investigation of aqueous and steam corrosion at elevated temperature has been carried on at Hanford for several tears. A number of reports have been published on various phases of the corrosion program but, except for monthly reports, little has been written on the progress of the Corrosion and Coatings Operation alloy development program. This interim report will outline the more important current phases of the aluminum alloy program.

Analysis for Oxide in Thorium Metal

Description: Abstract. to estimate the oxygen picked up by thorium in casting a rapid method of running the acid insoluble content was developed. the quickest procedure consists of reacting with mixed acids, fuming with perchloric and filtration to separate the "free" thorium from the "combined". The precipitate is ignited and weighed as thorium dioxide.

Analysis of Extended Zero Power Experiments on the Army Package Power Reactor : ZPE-2

Description: Introduction: This report is principally concerned with analysis of measurements taken on the APPR-1 core during the course of the extended Zero Power Experiments (ZPE-2). The bulk of these measurements are reported in APAE No. 21. There are some additional measurements reported in APAE Memo 115. In addition to the analysis of the ZPE-2 data some re-evaluation has been made of a few of the results obtained from the first set of Zero Power Experiments (ZPE-1). The ZPE-1 measurements are repor… more

Analysis of Heavy Water by Equilibration

Description: Technical report discussing that the deuterium concentration of heavy water can be determined by equilibrating the water with deuterium gas in the presence of a catalyst with subsequent analysis of the equilibrated gas on the mas spectrometer. The apparatus for equilibration analyses maybe be considered in three parts: 1) apparatus for introducing the ingredients into the reaction chambers; 2) the reaction chambers; 3) the mass spectrometer for analysis of the equilibrated gas. The isotopic co… more

Analysis of High Purity Water by Spectrochemistry

Description: When water is used as a coolant in any heat-producing process, the purity of the cooling water is of considerable importance, both from the standpoint of build-up of deposited solids inside the cooling tubes, and as an indication of corrosion of the tubes or any other materials with which the water comes in contact. The first problem has long been recognized, and is generally solved by pretreatment of the water. Efficient treatment can reduce the total solids content to less than 0.1 ppm, and t… more

Analysis of Six-Bar Linkage Using Digital Computer

Description: Summary. The analysis of the motion of a six-bar linkage is difficult because of the large number of variables involved and the large number of calculations that have to be made for each position of the linkage. If a digital computer is used to make the calculations required for a multi-position analysis of a mechanism, it is feasible to design by analyzing a large numbers of similar linkages and selecting the optimum configuration. In this paper expressions have been derived for the output ang… more

Analytical Chemistry Division Semiannual Progress Report For Period Ending April 20,1955

Description: The development of ionic methods for the determination of corrosion products in the highly radioactive Homogeneous Reactor (HR) fuels has been of major interest in the work of the Ionic Analyses Laboratory. Methods for the spectrophotometric determination of aluminum and for the polarographic determination of iron in HR fuels have been developed. The polarographic determination of molybdenum in uranyl sulfate solutions was studied. A polarographic method for the determination of zinc was develo… more

The ANCO System for Boron Isotope Enrichment Progress Report for Period Ending September 20, 1955

Description: A new gas-liquid countercurrent system (the ANCO system from Anisole-Complex) for the enrichment of boron isotopes has been developed. It is believed that use of this systems will result in a considerably lower unit cost for enriched boron-10 than was previously possible. The system utilizes the exchange reaction between BF3 (gas) and BF3·anisole (liquid) to concentrate boron-10 in the liquid phase. The single stage isotopic separation factor for this system has been found to vary from 1.039 at… more

Angular Distribution of Fragments from Neutron-Induced Fission

Description: The angular distribution of fission fragments from the neutron-induced fission of several isotopes has been studied. Distributions were observed for thermal neutrons on U233 and U235, Lady Godiva leakage neutrons on U235 and U238, and 14 Mev neutrons on U233, U235, U238, Th232, and Np237. No anisotropy was observed for thermal neutron fission, whereas for Lady Godiva neutrons and 14 Mev neutrons the probability of fission along the axis of the neutron beam was determined to be higher than for f… more

Artificial Cooling of the Columbia River By Dam Regulation Part 1

Description: In early July, 1958, it appeared that Columbia River temperature at HAPO would be near 24.5ÂşC by the end of August. River temperature were averaging 4Âş to 5Âş above 1957 figures and were 3Âş to 4Âş above the ten year highs. It seemed desirable to examine the problem to determine if any corrective measure could be taken, since it was apparent that production losses were imminent.

Avalanche Transistor Switching

Description: Introduction. High voltage silicon mass transistors have the ability to perform circuit functions similar to the gas thyratron tube. Upon being triggered the transistor junction breaks down, or "avalanches", and can conduct a large current for a short time. The rise time of the avalanche breakdown pulse can be short, and the delay between triggering and avalanching can be short and very consistent. This avalanche action is non-destructive if the amount of peak and average power being dissipated… more
