I am so happy to have through the medium of The Call Number an oppor-
tunity to pay my respects to the teachers and stu'=ets? o the Library Ser-
vice Department. Much water has passed under the bridge since first we
all met early in September; much more is now being planned to make the
Department grow bigger and better. As a matter of fact, our growth thus
far has been little short of miraculous. But we look forward now to greater
things.
Pland are being made for an increased enrolment for Sunmrer School,
New courses are being mapped. One teacher, who now devotes only a part
time to the work of our Department, is going to join us on a full-time
basis in June. We are forging ahead in our work in courses in special
library materials and in augmenting our facilities for instruction in the
increasingly popular field of visual aids to learning. By summer the whole
outline should be under full steam ahead. These things you will appreciate --
for here at NI T. 8. T. C. we all work together for the common good of all--
students and faculty alike. It must be a source of pride to you (as it is
to us) to know that you are obtaining your training in a progressive, up-
to-the-minute and highly reputed institution.
In our departmental faculty get-togothers we talk about you -- about
your work and your accomplishments. I hear good things from Mrs. Medders
and Mr. Douglass about you -- that is about most of yout We appreciate
the efforts you are making to leave behind you at N. T. S. T. C. a re-
cord you'll never be ashamed of. Keep it op. . . it'll come in handy one
of these days.
So through The Call Number I send my greetings to each of you.
Think hard -- it never hurt anybo-,y. Work hard -- it never harmed any-
body. Together they mako success for anybody. It's up to you!
Sincerely,
William Stanley Hoole
February is the ideal time to celebrate American Month for it not
only includes the birthdays of our two greatest Americans, Whashington and
Lincoln, and great men such as Horaco Greeley, Thomas A. Edison, William F.
Cody, Henry W. Longfellow, Eliht Root, and Roger Willisms; but also the
appropriate weeks of National Drama Week, Boy Scout Annriversary Wock, and
National Defense Week.
What an opportunity for librarians throughout this country to call
attention to their resources about the importat man and the important
events in our history.**Library Journal, Feb. 1, 1940
