Interactions of tailings leachate with local liner materials found at Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

The mill tailings site at Canonsburg, Pennsylvania is the first mill site to receive remedial action under the Department of Energy's Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Program. Part of this remedial action will require excavating the 53,500 m/sup 3/ (70,000 yd/sup 3/) of tailings on the site having a specific activity exceeding 100 pCi/g, and encapsulating these contaminated tailings in a clay-lined cell. During 1979, Chevron Resources Company drilled two 2000 ft holes near Soda Lake in the Nevada Carson Sink area to obtain subsurface data for inclusion in the US Department of Energy's Northern Basin and Range geothermal reservoir assessment program. Habitat selection of 31 adult striped bass was monitored by temperature sensing ultrasonic and radio transmitters in Cherokee Reservoir, Tennessee, from March through October 1978. This study sought to corroborate summer data obtained by Waddle (1979) in 1977 and to examine mechanisms of habitat selection by observing establishment of the summer distribution. Evidence of former higher temperatures from alteration minerals, Bostic 1-A well, Mountain Home, Idaho

Cuttings from the silicic volcanics in the Bostic 1-A well near Mountain Home, Idaho have been examined petrographically with the assistance of x-ray diffraction and electron microprobe analyses. Results indicate that these rocks have been subjected to much higher temperatures than were observed in the well in 1974, when a static temperature log was run.
