Simplified aerodynamic analysis of the cyclogiro rotating wing system

Description: A simplified aerodynamic theory of the cyclogiro rotating wing is presented herein. In addition, examples have been calculated showing the effect on the rotor characteristics of varying the design parameters of the rotor. A study of factors affecting the steady spin of an airplane

Description: Data from wind-tunnel tests on a model of the NY-1 airplane were used in a study of the effect on the steady spin of a number of factors considered to be important. The factors were of two classes, mass distribution effects and aerodynamic effects. Recent Results of Turbulence Research

Description: The first sections of this report deal with two prominent questions, namely the origin of turbulence and the characteristics of turbulent currents. In the third section conclusions are drawn for the flow along a rough wall, whereby an important relation for the velocity distribution is revealed. The principles are also applied to straight rough and smooth tubes.

Present Status of Lateral-Control Devices for Use With Split Flaps, Special Report

Description: "The increased use of split flaps for the dual purpose of reducing the landing speed and shortening the landing glide of airplanes has established as acute the problem of obtaining satisfactory lateral control to be used in conjunction with the flaps with out the sacrifice of any of the effectiveness of the flaps. Relation of Hydrogen and Methane to Carbon Monoxide in Exhaust Gases From Internal-Combustion Engines

Description: The relation of hydrogen and methane to carbon monoxide in the exhaust gases from internal-combustion engines operating on standard-grade aviation gasoline, fighting-grade aviation gasoline, hydrogenated safety fuel, laboratory diesel fuel, and auto diesel fuel was determined by analysis of the exhaust gases. Two liquid-cooled single-cylinder spark-ignition, one 9-cylinder radial air-cooled spark-ignition, and two liquid-cooled single-cylinder compression-ignition engines were used.
