Analysis of Iron in Thorium, Beryllium, and Cerium

Description: Introduction. the colorimetric determination of iron based on the formation of the colored ferrous-1,10-phenanthroline complex has been used successfully by a number of investigators. In this technical report, its adaptation to the routine determination of iron in cerium, thorium, and beryllium metals and their compounds is described.

Recovery of D2O and UO2F2 by Distillation

Description: Technical report describing the purification and separation by distillation of UO2F2 from D2O. In the experiment which is discussed 2,129.6 lbs of UO2F2 were dissolved in 6,605 lbs of D2O. The average isotopic purity of the D2O decreased during the distillation from 99.77% to 99.73%. The dissolved impurities were less than those present originally in the heavy water.

Studies of the hemolytic effect of radiation

Description: These studies were aimed at elucidating affects of radiation in inducing hemolysis independent of inhibition of erythropoiesis. Research studies were conducted both on human patients and dogs. Phosphorus-32 in mc amounts were administered either intravenously or orally to patients suffering Polycythemia rubra vera. The Effect of Compression Ratio on Knock Limits of High-Performance Fuels in a CFR Engine 3: Blends of 2,3-Dimethylpentane With 28-R

Description: Report discussing the knock-limited performance of blends of 2,3-dimethylpentane and 23-R fuel in an F-4 engine at three sets of conditions and three compression ratios. The knock-limited performance of 2,3-dimethylpentane has about the same sensitivity to compression ratio and inlet-air temperature as 28-R fuel.

Investigation of Slipstream Effects on a Wing-Inlet Oil-Cooler Ducting System of a Twin-Engine Airplane in the Ames 40- by 80-Foot Wind Tunnel

Description: Report discussing an investigation of wing-inlet oil-cooler ducts on a twin-engine airplane to determine internal and external-flow characteristics of the ducting installation. Testing was also performed on revised inlets to attempt to develop a ducting system with low overall losses throughout the operating range.
