Amines as Extractants--Survey of the Descriptive and Fundamental Extraction Chemistry

Description: Both the study and the use of extractions with highmolecular-weight amines (including quaternary ammoniums) in organic solution are increasing extensively. While equilibria have been measured in the extraction of an increasing range of acids and Aetal ions, a difficulty remains unresolved in that the amine concentration powerdependence of extraction often indicates a different stoichiometry of the complex existing in the organic phase than do limiting loading and other considerations. Burnout program for high heat flux assemblies

Description: The power of high flux fuel assemblies and three-tube drivers planned for future operations is limited by the burnout safety factor (BOSF). In the past, the power of standard production fuel assemblies was limited almost always by one of the hydraulic limits, and in most cases the assemblies operated at powers significantly below that permitted by the BOSF limit. The burnout conditions for an ``ideal`` fuel surface have been well established in mockups at SRL and Columbia University. Little exp… more

Campaign rework of Z-Plant material at Purex

Description: The Purex Plant has been requested to process Z-Plant MR and EPT solutions containing about 200 kilograms of plutonium in order to alleviate processing problem at Z-Plant and to reduce the inventory of MR and EPT rework. Campaign recycle of uranium through the main plant is recommended as an economical and effective means of reworking large quantities of Z-Plant plutonium solutions. This memorandum outlines process alternates and costs for reworking the solutions and itemizes specific recommend… more

Centrifugal Distortion Corrections to Calculated Thermodynamic Functions

Description: Complete parition functions for non-rigid rotators are obtained for the linear, spherical top, and symmetric top cases, From these are derived expression giving the corrections to the thermodynamic functions due to centrifugal distortion as functions of the rotational distortion constants D. Numerical examples are given for HCN, methane, and ammonia.

Chemical Technology Division, Unit Operations Section Monthly Progress Report, May 1961

Description: The experimental results on the oxidation of H from a He stream with CuO pellets were very close to the predicted behavior based on the mathematical model. Experimental measurements of uranyl sulfate loading rates on chloride equilibrated resin showed little variation with solution concentrations. A tentative flowsbeet was proposed for cost analysis of processing a Pebble Bed Reactor. A U-Zr plate was dissolved in nitrate-free Zirflex solution. An authentic TRIGA prototype was processed in engi… more

Coincident pressure and stress data obtained from PT-278-A and PT-301-I

Description: This document presents experimental data obtained during a series of tests which were completed at 105-D and DR Reactors in February and March, 1960. No analysis of the data is included in this document. The tests were: PT-301-I, II -- Reactor cold, full flow, BPA power failure; PT-278-A, III B -- 1170 MW, full flow, BPA power failure; and PT-278-A, II -- 1190 MW, full flow, poison push causing bulk surge and scram.
