Inspiravit aeolus

Description: Recording of Pierre Barbaud's Inspiravit Aeolus. During the months of July - August 1979, Barbaud did his holiday homework on the island of Panarea, which is part of the eight Aeolian Islands in southern Italy. The title refers to the character Aeolus from Homer's Odyssey who is the Keeper of the Winds. In the hours of siesta, he blows with great gentleness on the bougainvillea; this is the inspiration for all of the algorithms in the piece. Jabara

Description: Recording of Martin Brinkerhoff's Jabara. Sound material consists of percussion sounds that have been manipulated by concrete methods: pitch and duration transposition, inversion, and mixing. Ceremony of Shrugs

Description: Recording of David Koblitz's Ceremony of Shrugs. This piece was originally composed as music to a dance choreographed by Amy Ellsworth and performed by members of the University of Michigan Dancers. It is heard here in a slightly altered form. The sounds used in the piece were produced by electrical acoustic instruments, in addition to purely electronic sources. All were subject to modification and rearrangement in the University of Michigan Electronic Music Studio.

Rupestre en el futuro

Description: Recording of Joaquin Orellana's "Rupestre en el futuro" for tape. Extra-musically, the piece is a "testimony of place" in a surrealist picture of a social situation, namely, the development of humans. The beginning of the piece uses phonemes in indigenous languages (Quiché, Tzutujil) and special instruments made by the composer to simulate the sounds of "a supposed primitive man."

Description: Recording of Boyko Stoyanov's C.A.S. Stoyanov was inspired by the interpretation of Chopin's Op. 30, no. 1 by the Japanese pianist Rikako Akatsu, performed at the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Al-Un

Description: Recording of Michel Tétreault's. Al-Un is based on a single sound material: an aluminum chime. From this material, Tétreault created sonic events of different densities that he then arranged in the stereophonic space. The result is a work which two main parameters are: perspective and fixity or the mobility of plans. The structural organization is elaborated according to the weight and the atomic mass of the aluminum.
