Recording Equipment for Internal Friction Measurements

Microwave longitudinal coupling impedance in ISABELLE vacuum chamber

Description: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the modes above the cutoff frequency of the ISABELLE vacuum chamber, and to measure some typical values of the longitudinal coupling impedance. (The investigation was limited to only those modes that have fields in the beam pipe.) Generation of radiation by intense plasma and e. m. undulators

Description: This program involves the generation of short wavelength optical radiation by intense plasma and e.m. undulators. In this concept a relativistic electron beam is wiggled by either the oscillating electric field of an intense plasma wave, or by a laser beam causing it to radiate. Three-dimensional free electron laser dispersion relation including betatron oscillations

Description: We have developed a 3-D FEL theory based upon the Maxwell-Vlasov equations including the effects of the energy spread and emittance of the electron beam, and of betatron oscillations. Neutrino mixing and oscillation in a grand unified field theory SO(10)

Description: The investigation shows that it is very difficult to achieve neutrino mixing of other than the V/sub ..mu../-..nu../sub tau/ type in any minimal SO(10) model in which neutrino masses are generated by the Gell-Mann-Ramond-Slansky mechanism, because of the severe constraints placed on the mass matrix by quark phenomenology.

Analysis of sawtooth relaxation oscillations in tokamaks

Description: Sawtooth relaxation oscillations are analyzed using the Kadomtsev's disruption model and a thermal relaxation model. The sawtooth period is found to be very sensitive to the thermal conduction loss. Qualitative agreement between these calculations and the sawtooth period observed in several tokamaks is demonstrated.

Propane Vibrational Analysis

Description: Using the group vibratibn method of McMurry, the normal frequencies and coordinates of propane and three of its symmetrical deuterium substituted compounds were obtained. The force constants used were taken from a variety of previous works on hydrocarbons. The results give reasonable agreements with the experimental frequency and mode assignments of others. (auth)

Comments on muon trapping. [HALO computer code]

Description: Muons that result from the collisions of protons in the ISABELLE beams with other nucleons introduce important background or signal for experiments. Description: Variations in the distribution of steam bubble, the "void" distribution, in a boiling channel as a function of changes in heating power were studied. A rectangular test tube, of 1.11 x 4.44-cm cross section and 127-cm height, was inserted in a forced-circulation pressure loop. The tube was heated by passing an a-c current through the tube walls. ICRF heating on TFTR

Description: The objectives of the ICRF heating program on TFTR are discussed along with a summary of the progress made to date towards achieving those goals. A more detailed analysis of experimental observations of ICRF sawtooth stabilization is given along with a comparison of the data to a theoretical model based on energetic ion stabilization of m=1 kink instabilities. THE CYCLOTRON RESONANCE INSTABILITY WITH NEGATIVE MASS IONS

Description: Both the effect of resonant coupling of ion cyclotron motion to electron plasma oscillations, as previously discussed by Harris, and the effect of a negative radial gradient in a magnetic mirror field, the so-called "negative mass'' effect, were combined in an approximate calculation for the threshold for electrostatic instability in DCX.
