Eigensystem computation for skew-symmetric matrices and a class of symmetric matrices. [Subroutines TRIZD, IMZD, and TBAKZD in FORTRAN for IBM 360/91 computer]

Description: An algorithm is given for computing the eigenvalues and (optionally) the eigenvectors of either a skew-symmetric matrix or a symmetric tridiagonal matrix with constant diagonal. The algorithm uses only orthogonal similarity transformations, and is believed to be the most efficient algorithm available for computing all the eigenvalues or the complete eigensystem. 2 tables.

Hypersingular integrals at a corner

Description: For a smooth boundary, hypersingular integrals can be defined as a limit from the interior, the approach direction being taken, for convenience, normal to the surface. At a boundary corner, the limit process, with a necessarily non-normal approach direction, provides a valid definition of the hypersingular equation, as long as the direction is employed for all integrations. The terms which are potentially singular in the limit are shown to cancel, provided the function approximations at the cor… more

Novel Computational Simulation of Redox Reactions Within a Metal Electrospray Emitter

Description: To further both our fundamental understanding implications of the electrolytic nature of the electrospray and our understanding of the analytical ion source, in the context of electrospray mass spectrometry (ES-MS), a computational simulation of the oxidation of chemical species inside a metal emitter has been developed. The analysis code employs a boundary integral method for the solution of the Laplace equation for the electric potential and current, and incorporates standard activation and c… more

A posteriori pointwise error estimates for the boundary element method

Description: This report presents a new approach for a posteriori pointwise error estimation in the boundary element method. The estimator relies upon the evaluation of hypersingular integral equations, and is therefore intrinsic to the boundary integral equation approach. This property allows some theoretical justification by mathematically correlating the exact and estimated errors. A methodology is developed for approximating the error on the boundary as well as in the interior of the domain. In the inte… more
