Orbitas elipticas

Description: Recording of Carlos Farinas' Orbitas elipticas. The Orbis Musicae program, developed at EMEC by Ruben Hinojosa, is based on the conception of the elliptical orbital motion of a planetary system, which generates sound frequencies. Then real-time sound generation with a chromatic scale and a pre-established configuration and MIDI output (the program allows 16 MIDI outputs). The piece is an optimal generation function of the five rises and falls. FM sources (DX7 II) were used in only three main ob… more

El otro Espejo

Description: Recording of Raul Minsburg's El otro Espejo. This work offers a type of action, sound, and in a sense, form of some works of the '50s and '60s made with analog equipment; but here made with recent equipment, digital and especially with a synthesizer having additive synthesis, which interferes with all the sounds of the work, including a kind of voice, at the end of the work. There are several sections that create a specific relationship of density, polyphony, and texture due to the interaction … more

The Nagual

Description: Recording of Mesias Maiguashca's The Nagual. This work is inspired by the first four books by Carlos Casta–eda on the practice of magic among the Yaqui Indians in Mexico. The technical starting point of the cycle was a metal construction. This instrument consists of a framework on which metal objects are hung on nylon threads; these are then 'played' with a bow or mallet and amplified using contact microphones. There is a dialogue between the sounds played "live" by the two players and the soun… more

About Howard Johnson/Affirmative

Description: Recording of Joshua Fried's About Howard Johnson/Affirmative. This work uses MIDI in unusual ways. Sound modules become a silent controller of analog gates, and continuous controllers manipulate digital processors in real time. When channel gates are triggered at an even rate, one obtains the well-known strobe effect of slowing down, stopping or even reversing the apparent motion of a rotating object. As trigger cycle and loop cycle move out of phase, bits of sound seem to wander from speaker … more

The timbral development of this work is based on exploration of the diverse degrees in affinity arisen from the mixing of digital transformed acoustical sounds, and synthetic clones of them by the other. Decomposition of digital recordings is used (orchestras playing compositions by Schoenberg, Mahler and Debussy) mainly through band-pass filters, and the further spectral reconstruction. L'autel de la perte et de la transformation

Description: Recording of Brigitte Robindore's L'autel de la perte et de la transformation. This work illustrates an archetypal event in the evolution of the inner life where man has to face loss. It is not just an ordinary loss, as distressing as it may be, but the voluntary sacrifice of something very dear. The UPIC system does not reveal all its possibilities during the first approach. With time the sounds begin to be electronically processed and revealing the possibilities of electro-acoustic technique.

Scales of noise for each sound sources (book salt box, apple) and then composed a strict fugue with 3 voices. The 5th movement then frees the concrete sounds again from their bondage into the strict tonal form and scale by letting them explode into space.

Embrassement

Description: Recording of Jean-Michel Rivet's Embrassement. This work is for electronics and manipulated pre-recorded sound. The composer wrote a poem, which is depicted by the acoustic environment: Snatching fire from the purple clouds, lightning shoots from the heights. In oblique, it crosses the sky dotting the countryside with light. Flames and torches crawl under the trees, on all sides there are only scarlet cracklings, tawny cracklings, silver stripes. Ever-changing reflections glow the horizon: It's… more
