Diffusion estimation for small emissions. Preliminary report

Description: A simplified approach is presented to the calculation of ground level concentrations of effluents from small industrial and fuel burning installations. It is intended to serve as a first approximation to a very complex process. Because each stack, building, and terrain configuration is different, actual ground concentrations may frequently differ from the values calculated here by a factor of two. Nonetheless, this procedure should be useful for determining whether ambient air quality standards… more

A Comparison of the Desirability and Feasibility of Accountability Measures as Perceived by Public School Administrators and Teachers

Description: This study had three main purposes. The first was to determine the perceptions of public school administrators toward desirability and toward feasibility of accountability items. The second was to determine the perceptions of public school teachers toward desirability and toward feasibility of accountability items. The third was to compare the perceptions of administrators with those of teachers and to indicate areas where they seemed to be in agreement or disagreement.

A System of Selection and Human Resource Development for Small Retailers of Apparel and Accessories

Description: The study has a twofold purpose. The first is to determine the extent to which organized selection and training practices exist in small apparel and accessory retailing establishments, and the general attitude which small retailers of apparel and accessories express toward the value of selection and training functions. The second is to construct a practical system which can be used in small apparel and accessory retailing establishments.

Primary Productivity and Nutrient Relationships in Garza-Little Elm Reservoir

Description: A large, multi-basin, reservoir (Garza-Little Elm Reservoir) in north central Texas was studied to determine the relative effects of various parameters on primary productivity. The basins were impounded several years apart, thus allowing the influence of age on water chemistry and biota to be considered. Another principal influence on water quality was secondary sewage effluent that entered one basin from a nearby source.

Electron Density and Collision Frequency Studies Using a Resonant Microwave Cavity as a Probe

Description: Electron densities and collision frequencies were obtained on a number of gases in a dc discharge at low pressures (0.70-2mm of Hg). These measurements were performed by microwave probing of a filament of the dc discharge placed coaxially in a resonant cavity operating in a TM₀₁₀ mode. The equipment and techniques for making the microwave measurements employing the resonant cavity are described. One of the main features of this investigation is the technique of differentiating the resonance sig… more

LIQUID XENON FILLED WIRE CHAMBERS FOR MEDICAL IMAGINGAPPLICATIONS

Description: In 1968, Luis Alvarez suggested that a high-resolution multiwire particle detector could be developed using a thin layer of liquified noble gas as the detection medium. After key problems in chamber construction, purification, and readout had been solved, a spatial resolution of 15 {micro} rms was demonstrated. Work is in progress to build high-resolution chambers and measure their properties for particle physics experiments at high-energy accelerators. The liquid xenon multiwire chamber also h… more
