Study of reduction of accessory horsepower requirements. Sixth quarterly progress report

Description: The objective of this program is to evolve and define an accessory drive system that will minimize system power consumption of driven accessories on an internal combustion engine in a passenger automobile. The initial program phases established concept feasibility, determined potential fuel savings, and selected a drive system design for concept mechanization. HTGR accident initiation and progression analysis status report. Volume VII. Occupational radiation exposures from gas-borne and plateout activities

Description: As a part of the Accident Initiation and Progression Analysis (AIPA) program, calculations were performed of the occupational dose rates and man-rem exposures from gas-borne and plateout activities in a reference 3000-MW(t) HTGR plant. The study included a preliminary survey to determine the most important contributors by operation or radiation source to the man-rem exposures. Compaction of alpha contaminated wastes

Description: The initial equipment installation and development of procedures for compacting less than or equal to 10 nCi/gram waste, greater than or equal to 10 nCi/gram waste, and less than or equal to 100 nCi/gram waste are given. Separation of trivalent lanthanides and actinides by solvent extraction without aqueous complexing agents

Description: A method of separating the trivalent actinides, mainly Am and Cm, from trivalent lanthanides is presented. This method embodies the sequential use of two different solvent extractants; the first extractant would remove the heavy lanthanides from the lighter lanthanides and Am--Cm, while the second would extract Am--Cm in preference to the lighter lanthanides.
