Description: Power Breeder Reactor. Conceptual design studies for the Power Breeder Reactor indicate the feasibility of a contained primary coolant system in a package arrangement. One- and two-group calculations are presented in detail for preliminary PBR estimations. A technique for impregnating UO/sub 2/ with NaK has been developed. PROBLEMS OF REFINING URANIFEROUS RESIDUES. Progress Report for May 1953

Description: The applicability and refinement of various procedures for the treatment and digestion of C-slags and other uraniferous residues for recovery of U values were studied. The recovery of U from BFC-6 was investigated, placing emphasis on procedures which will not chemically alter the Cu and Sn media. Methods of U recovery from various residues resulting from Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ digestion of miscellaneous U-bearing materials, to reduce the U/sub 3/C/sub 8/ content below 0.05%, are discussed. Cooperative Investigation of Relationship Between Static and Fatigue Properties of Wrought N-155 Alloy at Elevated Temperatures

Description: Report presents the correlation of extensive data obtained relating properties of wrought N-155 alloy under static, combined static and dynamic, and complete reversed dynamic stress conditions. Time period for fracture ranged from 50 to 500 hours at room temperature, 1,000 degrees, 1,200 degrees, and 1,500 degrees F.

The Low-Speed Lift and Drag Characteristics of a Series of Airplane Models Having Triangular or Modified Triangular Wings

Description: Memorandum summarizing the lift and drag characteristics of a series of five low-aspect-ratio triangular-wing or modified triangular-wing airplane models. The series consists of three triangular wings of aspect ratios 2, 3, and 4 and two modified triangular wings of aspect ratio 2 with taper ratios of 0.20 and 0.33. The experimental lift and drag characteristics of the five models are compared with existing theory.
