Description:
The charged particle multiplicity, dN{sub ch}/d{eta}, and transverse energy, E{sub t}, are fundamental aspects of Heavy Ion collisions which PHENIX has measured in Au-Au collisions at a center-of-mass (c.m.s.) energy {radical}s{sub N}N = 130 GeV. E{sub t} is a multiparticle global observable related, through the Bjorken relation, to the maximum energy density achieved in the collision.
