Preferential Pumping and Its Application to the P⁴ Experiment

Description: Report analyzing the "preferential removal of neutral gas from an incompletely ionized plasma in which the ionized particles are allowed to drift along magnetic field lines through a differentially pumped channel" and its relation to the P⁴ experiment. The report also analyzes the regenerative and non-regenerative losses of plasma by radial diffusion, as well as "considerations relating to the ultimate disposal of overflow plasma."

Spectrophotometric Determination of Cerium With Tiron

Description: A spectrophotometric method for the determination of cerium and Tiron (disodium-1,2-dihydroxybenzene-3,5disulfonate) was applied to the determination of cerium in samples which contain uranium and zirconium. The ceriumTiron complex in solutions of pH 8 or greater exhibits an absorption maximum of 500 m mu . This reagent does not react with any other lanthanive element. The interference of iron, uranium, and zirconium was eliminated by extracting these interfering elements with a solution of tri… more

Effect of Some External Crosswise Stiffeners on the Heat Transfer and Pressure Distribution on a Flat Plate at Mach Numbers of 0.77, 1.39, and 1.98

Description: The heat transfer and pressures on the surfaces of several flat-plate models with various external crosswise stiffener arrangements are presented. The tests were made in a free jet at Mach numbers of 0.77, 1.39, and 1.98 for Reynolds numbers of 3 x 10(exp 6), 7 x 10(exp 6), and 14 x 10(exp 6), respectively, based on a length of 1 foot. The addition of external crosswise stiffeners to the flat-plate models caused large pressure and heat-transfer variations on the surfaces of the models.
