[Selfie in front of a Buc-ee's Beaver]

Description: Robert Hobbs (husband) and Caira Spenrath (wife) in masks take a selfie in front of a Buc-ee's Beaver statue in the background wearing a Buccee's face mask in New Braunfels, Texas. This was the first "outing" for the couple in an urban space since the beginning of quarantine seven months prior.

Sol-gel synthesized indium tin oxide as a transparent conducting oxide with solution-processed black phosphorus for its integration into solar-cells

Description: This article describes the synthesis of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films using solgel processing with a mixture of InCl₃, methanol, and SnCl₂, where the solutions were spin coated onto glass substrates. The combined architecture of black phosphorus on ITO thin films shows promise in its use for transparent electronics, which can also serve as a stepping stone for future solar cell platforms.

Progenitor cell therapy for acquired pediatric nervous system injury: Traumatic brain injury and acquired sensorineural hearing loss

Description: Article suggesting that multipotent stem cell therapies can achieve therapeutic effect by altering the immune response to injury, thereby limiting damage due to inflammation and possibly improving outcomes in patients with neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injury and hearing loss.

Substrate Specificity of LACCASE8 Facilitates Polymerization of Caffeyl Alcohol for C-Lignin Biosynthesis in the Seed Coat of Cleome hassleriana

Description: This article finds that the transcript profile of the laccase gene ChLAC8 parallels the accumulation of C-lignin during seed coat development. Recombinant ChLAC8 oxidizes caffeyl and sinapyl alcohols, generating their corresponding dimers or trimers in vitro, but cannot oxidize coniferyl alcohol. The authors propose a basis for this substrate preference based on molecular modeling/docking experiments. Suppression of ChLAC8 expression led to significantly reduced C-lignin content in the seed coa… more
