Chemical Development, Quarterly Progress Report, July-September, 1953.

Description: Introduction: "During the last quarter, members of the Chemical Development Group have been concerned with six major projects. (1) thermal and radiation properties of organic materials as moderators and coolants, (2) thermal and radiation stability of mirconium hydride, (e) reactor accessibility (transport of radioactive materials in cooling systems, ................. There have been, in addition, a number of smaller service projects, mostly of an analytical nature.:

Experimental Investigation of a 0.4 Hub-Tip Diameter Ratio Axial-Flow Compressor Inlet Stage at Transonic Inlet Relative Mach Numbers 1: Rotor Design and Over-All Performance at Tip Speeds From 60 to 100 Percent of Design

Description: Memorandum presenting an inlet-type axial-flow compressor rotor with a hub-tip diameter ratio of 0.4 at the rotor leading edge, which was designed, fabricated, and experimentally investigated. The results of the investigation indicated that stages with inlet hub-tip ratios as low as 0.4 can be designed within known practical aerodynamic specifications to produce satisfactory values of stage pressure ratio and efficiency at high specific weight flows.

Effluent water monitoring improvements: Existing 100 areas. Project proposal

Description: This report discusses a proposal to provide improved effluent water monitoring systems in the 105 Reactor Buildings at 100-B, D, F, DR, H, and C; and to modify or remove portions of the existing monitoring systems. The primary objectives of the proposed work are: to reduce relatively the amount of lost production due to stuck ruptures and leaking tubes; to minimize the amount of water entering the reactor from such tube leaks -- such water may shorten the life of the reactor; to provide an impr… more

Rear Face Monitoring by Television: Supplementary Report

Description: Supervision and coordination of shutdown work are often made difficult by lack of visual contact between the front face, rear face and control room. Examples of such conditions are: Removal of process tubes, where close co-separation between front and rear elevator crews is required; Locating freshly discharged slugs accidently lodged on discharge face obstructions where radiation levels are high and optical viewing equipment inadequate; Monitoring of the transfer of hot samples from a process… more

Investigation of a Related Series of Turbine-Blade Profiles in Cascade

Description: From Summary: "An application of airfoil design methods was used to design series of related turbine-blade profiles to satisfy the conditions of inlet flow angle and turning angle encountered in the usual range of turbine operation. A series of blade profiles applicable to most turbine blading requirements and a secondary series with particular reference to impulse conditions were designed. Five blade sections from these series ranging in mean-line turning angles from 63 deg. to 120 deg. were t… more
