Single particle wavefunction localizations in bulged CdSenanowires

Description: Using atomistic empirical pseudopotentials, we havecalculated the electronic structures of CdSe nanowires with a bulgedarea. The localized state wavefunctions and their binding energies arecalculated, and their dependences on the bulged area shape are analyzed. We find that both the binding energy and the wavefunction localizationstrongly depend on the bulged area shape, with the most compact shapeproduces the largest binding energy and strongest wavefunctionlocalization. We also find that the t… more

B(S) LIFETIME DIFFERENCE MEASUREMENTS FROM THE TEVATRON.

Description: The two collider experiments at the Tevatron, CDF and D0, have made a lot of progress in B{sub s} lifetime difference measurements. Here, they have included 3 different channels of measurements, namely, B{sub s} {yields} J/{psi} + {phi}, B{sub s} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -} and B{sub s} {yields} D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-}. Combining all the available measurements, they have obtained {Delta}{Lambda}{sub s} = 0.097{sub -0.042}{sup +0.041} ps{sup -1} and {bar {tau}} = 1/{Lambda}{sub s} = 1… more

Influences of Flow Transients and Porous Medium Heterogeneity on Colloid-Associated Contaminant Transport in the Vadose Zone

Description: Radionuclides, metals, and dense non-aqueous phase liquids have contaminated about six billion cubic meters of soil at Department of Energy (DOE) sites. The subsurface transport of many of these contaminants is facilitated by colloids (i.e., microscopic, waterborne particles). The first step in the transport of contaminants from their sources to off-site surface water and groundwater is migration through the vadose zone. Developing our understanding of the migration of colloids and colloid-asso… more

China Naval Modernization: Implications for U.S. Navy Capabilities - Background and Issues for Congress

Description: This report focuses on the implications that certain elements of China’s military modernization may have for future required U.S. Navy capabilities. The issue for Congress addressed in this report is: How should China’s military modernization be factored into decisions about U.S. Navy programs? Congress’s decisions on this issue could significantly affect future U.S. Navy capabilities, U.S. Navy funding requirements, and the U.S. defense industrial base, including the shipbuilding industry.
