Reduced oxide soldering activation (ROSA) PWB solderability testing

Description: The effect of ROSA pretreatment on the solderability of environmentally stressed PWB test coupons was investigated. The PWB surface finish was an electroplated, reflowed solder. Test results demonstrated the ability to recover plated-through-hole fill of steam aged samples with solder after ROSA processing. ROSA offers an alternative method for restoring the solderability of aged PWB surfaces.

TWRS Privatization Phase I waste characterization data evaluation for the request for proposal

Description: Radioactive wastes have been stored in large underground tanks at Hanford since 1944. In 1991, The Tank Waste Remediation System (TWRS) program was established to manage, retrieve, treat, immobilize, and dispose of these wastes in a safe, effective manner. DOE believes that it is feasible to privatize portions of the TWRS program. Under the Privatization strategy embodied in the request for proposal, DOE will purchase services from a contractor-owned, contractor-operated facility under a fixed-… more

Effect of Composition and Processing on the Thermal Fatigue and Toughness of High Performance Die Steels. Year 1 Report

Description: The goal of this project is to extend the lifetime of dies for die casting by 20%. Since the die contributes about 10% to the cost of die cast parts, such an improvement in lifetime would result in annual savings of over $200 Million dollars. This is based on the estimated annual die production of one Billion dollars in the US. The major tasks of this two year project are: (1) Evaluate NEW DIE STEEL COMPOSITIONS that have been developed for demanding applications and compare them to Premium Gra… more

High heat generation safety issue in tank 241-C-106

Description: A `White` paper was written on the High Heat Generation Safety Issue in Tank 241-C-106. The issue is if tank 241-C-106 should start leaking, the lack of alternative cooling methods will require continued addition of water and thereby possibly increase the amount of leakage to the ground. If the current methods of cooling the tank are stopped, the sludge and concrete structure will heat to temperatures greater than established limits and may cause structural damage, leading to dome collapse and … more

Organic and TRU screening for 200 West Area SST interim stabilization activities

Description: This SD documents the preliminary work performed during the effort to better understand the magnitude and nature of transuranic (TRU) and/or complexed wastes contained in the 200 West Area single shell tank (SSTs). This preliminary work identified which of the SST interstitial liquids in question had adequate characterizations and performed a limited compatibility assessment based upon those characterizations. This allowed a determination of the TRU activity in the liquid and the waste type whi… more
