An Analysis of Salinity in Streams of the Green River Basin

Description: Abstract: Dissolved-solids concentrations and loads can be estimated from streamflow records using a regression model derived from chemical analyses of monthly samples. The model takes seasonal effects into account by the inclusion of simple-harmonic time functions. Monthly mean dissolved-solids loads simulated for a 6-year period at U.S. Geological Survey water-quality stations in the Green River Basin of Wyoming agree closely with corresponding loads estimated from daily specific-conductance … more

Investigation of Waikele Well No. 2401-01, Oahu, Hawaii: Pumping Test, Well Logs and Water Quality

Description: Introduction: A dependable water supply is required for Naval Magazine Lualualei, Waikele Branch. The water supply for Naval Magazine Lualualei, Waikele Branch, Oahu, Hawaii has been dependent on Oahu Sugar Co.'s water for many years. Because the supply of water from Oahu Sugar Co. is not always dependable, in March 1982, the Pacific Division of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command entered into a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey to determine the productivity and water q… more

Water Resources of the North Coast Limestone Area, Puerto Rico

Description: From introduction: The North Coast Limestone area is one of the two most important ground-water provinces of Puerto Rico--the other being the South Coast Alluvial aquifer. The investigation of the water resources of the South Coast has progressed to the point that at this time (mid-1971) an electric-analog model of the area is being prepared. The hydrology of the North Coast Limestones, however, was never investigated as a whole before this investigation, and, therefore, this study was designed… more

WATEQF: A FORTRAN IV Version of WATEQ, a Computer Program for Calculating Chemical Equilibrium of Natural Waters

Description: Abstract: WATEQF is a FORTRAN IV computer program that models the thermodynamic speciation of inorganic ions and complex species in solution for a given water analysis. The original version (WATEQ) was written in 1973 by A. H. Truesdell and B. F. Jones in Programming Language/one (PL/1). With but a few exceptions, the thermochemical data, speciation, activity coefficients, and general calculation procedure of WATEQF is identical to the PL/1 version. This report notes the differences between WAT… more

Hydrologic Effects of Annually Diverting 131,000 Acre-Feet of Water from Dillon Reservoir, Central Colorado

Description: From abstract: because of the increased demands for water in eastern Colorado, principally in the urbanizing Denver metropolitan area, increased diversions of water from Dillon Reservoir are planned. Estimates of end-of-month storage in Dillon Reservoir, assuming the reservoir was in place and 131,000 acre-feet of water were diverted from the reservoir each year, were reconstructed by mass balance for the 1931-77 water years. Based on the analysis, the annual maximum end-of-month drawdown below… more
