Geotechnical Aspects of Rock Erosion in Emergency Spillway Channels, Report 1

Description: "The problem of rock erosion in unlined emergency spillway channels is described in this first-of-a series report. Recent CE and non-CE case histories which illustrate the potentially hazardous impacts of excessive erosion in discharge channels are described as are the various factors controlling erosion and other responses to emergency spillway overflow. Research programs designed to improve geotechnical capabilities with respect to selection of cost-effective preventive and remedial measures … more

Isabella Dam Spillway, Kern River, California: Hydraulic Model Investigation

Description: Abstract: "Tests were conducted on a 1:50-scale model of Isabella Dam Spillway to determine the adequacy of proposed spillway, dam, and channel improvements. The model reproduced an area of the reservoir 800 ft wide by 1,100 ft long, the spillway, and the entire length of the exit channel. Unsatisfactory flow conditions were observed in the vicinity of the spillway crest due to approach conditions to the spillway. Large cross waves, present in the exit channel just downstream of the spillway, r… more

Dynamics of Wheeled Vehicles, Report 1: A Mathematical Model for the Traversal of Rigid Obstacles by a Pneumatic Tire, Appendix B: Digital Implementation of Segmented Tire Model

Description: Summary: "This appendix presents the procedures for digital implementation of the segmented tire model, developed in the basic report for an analog computer. Two procedures are required: (a) determination of the segment spring coefficient from measured load-deflection test results, and (b) computation of the resultant force vector transmitted to the axle. Digital programs for both procedures were written in Fortran IV for a GE-420 system, and are included" (p. xi).

Model Study of the Outlet Structures for the Wappapello Dam

Description: This memorandum constitutes a final report of the study performed at the U. S. Waterways Experiment Station on a model of the outlet works for the Wappapello Dam The model was built undistorted to the linear scale ratio, model-to-prototype, of 1 to 25. The general purpose of the model study was to check the hydraulic characteristics of all elements in the design of the outlet works, and to develop means of correcting any uneconomic, unsafe, or undesirable conditions.
