Strontium fluoride flowsheet development studies for the waste packaging program

Description: It was demonstrated that the modified version of the Martin flowsheet can produce SrF/sub 2/ of acceptable quality using a simulated feed of the same composition as the anticipated packaging plant feed. By careful control of operating conditions, strontium losses in the process can be reduced to an acceptable level. Using a nonrepresentative radioactive feed (which contained impurities not present in the simulated feed) high strontium losses were encountered in the feed purification step, altho… more

Position-sensitive proportional-counter system for use in the Enge split-pole spectrograph

Description: A variety of position-sensitive single-wire proportional counters with lengths up to 90 cm have been built and tested in the focal plane of the Enge split-pole spectrographs at the Argonne tandem accelerator and cyclotron. This report, which describes the counters, the associated electronics, and the data-handling procedures, is intended as an operating manual for general use of the system. Under ideal experimental conditions, the spatial resolution of the counters is about 1 to 1.5 mm (FWHM), … more

Proposal to Study Electroproduction with Coincidence Techniques at High Energies

Description: Using the large aperture spectrometer of proposal 144 and the electron beam with the tagging system removed we propose to study deep inelastic electron scattering at incident electron energies between 50 and 150 GeV, for values of q{sup 2} between 1 and 20 Gev{sup 2}/c and {nu} between 10 and 130 GeV. The spectrometer will detect not only the scattered electron but also most of the secondary particles.

Integrated system for production of neutronics and photonics calculational constants. Volume 11. Experimental data, indexes, and techniques of obtaining a selected set of neutron resonance parameters

Description: A tabulation is presented of 52,000 experimental resonance parameters, together with appropriate indexes and bibliographic citations. These materials were contained in the LLL Experimental Neutron Cross Section Library as of May 1, 1972. Techniques used to obtain a selected set of resolved and unresolved resonance parameters from the compilation are described. (auth)

Liquid nitrogen fire extinguishing system test report. [Pu fires]

Description: The objective of this test series was to demonstrate the feasibility of using liquid nitrogen as a fire-extinguishing agent for certain types of metal fires. It was intended to provide data and experience appropriate to the design of a second series which will test the applicability of this technique to plutonium fires and which will develop more detailed operating information and permit more precise measurement of test parameters-oxygen depletion rates and equilibrium concentrations, temperatu… more

Digital Computer Programs for Steady-State or Transient Temperature Analysis of Plane and Axisymmetric Bodies by the Finite Element Method. Programs E12202, E12205, E12206, E12207. Engineering Operations Report

Description: The problem is to determine the temperature distribution of a complex two-dimensional body with various boundary conditions including radiation effects. The body can consist of several different materials; the material property parameters and boundary conditions can be both temperature and time dependent. The purpose of this report is to describe the numerical procedures and the input instructions for the computer programs which provide the solutions.
