National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Thermopolis Quadrangle, Wyoming

Description: From Introduction: "The Thermopolis Quadrangle (1º x 2º), Wyoming, was evaluated to identify and delineate areas and geologic units that exhibit characteristics favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits. Geologic environments and formations were evaluated to a depth of 1500 m from surface and subsurface investigations. Areas and environments were categorized as favorable, unfavorable, or unevaluated for uranium deposits."

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Newcastle Quadrangle, Wyoming and South Dakota

Description: Uranium resources of the Newcastle 1°x2° Quadrangle, Wyoming and South Dakota were evaluated to a depth of 1,500 m (5000 ft) using available surface and subsurface geologic information. Many of the uranium occurrences reported in the literature and in reports of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission were located, sampled and described. Areas of anomalous radioactivity, interpreted from an aerial radiometric survey, were outlined. Areas favorable for uranium deposits in the subsurface were evaluated… more

Water Rights Related to Oil Shale Development in the Upper Colorado River Basin

Description: Concerns over fluctuating oil prices and declining petroleum production worldwide have revived interest in oil shale as a potential resource. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (P.L. 109-58) identified oil shale as a strategically important domestic resource and directed the Department of the Interior to promote commercial development. Oil shale development would require significant amounts of water, however, and water supply in the Colorado River Basin, where several oil shale reserves are located,… more
