Geology and Uranium Occurrences in the Miller Hill Area, Carbon County, Wyoming

Description: Abstract: Uranium occurs in the North Park(?) formation of Pliocene(?) age in the Miller Hill area, about 25 miles south of Rawlins, Carbon County, Wyo. As much as 0. 5 percent uranium is contained in grab samples, but only about 1000 tons of rock are known to contain as much as 0. 03 percent uranium. Beds of brecciated, silicified limestone 3 to 10 feet thick contain the principal concentrations of uranium. Lesser concentrations are found in calcareous sandstone and quartzite. Uranophane, Ca(U… more

Uranium Deposits in the Red Desert of the Great Divide Basin, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: From introduction: The investigations that are the subject of this report were to appraise the uranium resources of the Red Desert area, and to accumulate data concerning the geology of uranium. Knowledge of the genesis of the schroeckingerite is necessary for a clear appraisal of the deposit.

Uranium Deposits of the Carlile Quadrangle, Crook County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: The uranium deposits in the Carlile quadrangle, southwestern Crook County, Wyo., are in relatively flat-lying sandstone beds in the lower part of the Inyan Kara group of Early Cretaceous age. The Carlile mine has the largest deposit in the quadrangle; the ore minerals are carnotite and tyuyamunite associated with carbonaceous material in a sandstone lens.

Summary of Investigations of Uranium Deposits in the Pumpkin Buttes Area, Johnson and Campbell Counties, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: Uranium minerals were discovered in the Pumpkin Buttes area, Campbell and Johnson Counties by the U. S. Geological Survey in October 1951. From June to November 1952, an area of about 750 square miles was examined for uranium deposits, and 211 localities with abnormally high radioactivity were found; uranium minerals are visible at 121 of these localities.

Uranium-Bearing Coal in the Central Part of the Great Divide Basin, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: Field work leading to this report was done by the U. S. Geological Survey for the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, Nearly 24 townships were mapped in the central part of the Great Divide Basin, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, Fourteen of these townships contain outcrops of uranium-bearing coal. Thirty coal beds were mapped, but only seven of them have uranium-bearing coal reserves as defined in this report.

Geology and Uranium Deposits of Part of the Browns Park Formation, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah: a Preliminary Report

Description: From abstract: Uranium deposits and radioactivity anomalies have been found in the eastern half of the area underlain by the Browns Park formation in northwestern Colorado, south-central Wyoming, and northeastern Utah. The deposits are in eolian, lacustrine, and fluvial sandstones, tuffaceous sandstones, and limestones all of which were deposited on two converging pediments during Miocene time. At least one eastern and one western facies of lacustrine and fluvial sedimentary rocks are separated… more

Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Rocks in Northwestern Colorado, Southwestern Wyoming, and Northeastern Utah

Description: The following report covers a reconnaissance for new discoveries of radioactive lignite deposits in the Green River Basin and Uinta Basin of Wyoming and Utah where similar discoveries to previous studies in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming were made. Additionally, there were new prospects examined, as well as reconnaissance for uranium deposits.

Identification and Occurrence of Uranium and Vanadium Minerals From the Colorado Plateaus

Description: Abstract: "This report, designed to make available to field geologists and others information on identification and occurrence of uranium minerals of the Colorado Plateaus, contains physical properties, X-ray data, and in some instances results of chemical and spectrographic analysis of 24 uranium and 17 vanadium minerals. Also included is a table giving the optical properties of uranium minerals and a list of locations of mines from which the minerals have been identified."
