Description: From abstract and introduction: Mineralogic and stratigraphic studies of the lower part of the Pierre Shale of Late Cretaceous age along the Missouri River indicate correlations different from those generally accepted. The purposes of this paper are to present evidence for the new correlations and to resolve problems of formal nomenclature that result from them.

Acoustic Flowmeter Prototype Evaluation Tests

Description: Summary: "Prototype tests of an acoustic flowmeter system were made in a 24-ftdiam power penstock at Oahe Dam to evaluate the system prior to permanent installation in the outlet works at Summersville Dam. Bentonite Deposits of the Northern Black Hills District Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota

Description: From abstract: The northern Black Hills bentonite mining district includes parts of Crook County, Wyo., Carter County, Mont., and Butte County, S. Dak. Within this district, many beds of bentonite occur interspersed with sedimentary strata of Cretaceous age that have an average total thickness of about 3,000 feet and consist chiefly of marine shale, marl, and argillaceous sandstone. USAEC Airborne Radiometric Reconnaissance in South Dakota and Wyoming, 1952 to 1955

Description: From introduction: This is one of a series of three reports on airborne radioactivity surveys in the United States. The reports contain the 185 airborne anomaly maps issued by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission as a result of the AEC's aerial surveying program conducted from March 1952 to June 1956; two ground reconnaissance maps of Utah also are included. Most of the reconnaissance was done in the western United States.

Nonopaque Heavy Minerals in Sandstone of Jurassic and Cretaceous Age in the Black Hills, Wyoming and South Dakota

Description: The following report describes the examinations of the nonopague heavy minerals in sandstone found in the Black Hills in northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota. The studies were made to determine if differences in the shapes of the grains and proportions of minerals are sufficiently distinctive to be used in subdividing and correlating formations.
