It lies entirely within the Arkansas Valley geomorphic province except for the extreme northwest corner, which is crossed by the easternmost cuesta of the Osage Plains province.

Description: From abstract: The rocks exposed in the Lehigh district, in the Arkansas-Oklahoma coal basin, aggregate at least 5,000 feet in thickness. All are of Pennsylvanian age, except scattered thin Pleistocene (?) and Recent deposits. Rocks of Pottsville age crop out extensively in the southwestern part of the district and include the Springer formation, Wapanucka limestone, and Atoka formation.
