Novel Concepts in Electrochemical Solar Cells. Third Quarterly Progress Report, November 15, 1979-January 15, 1980. [Molten Salt Electrolytes]

Description: Efforts have been primarily directed toward evaluation of the room temperature molten salt electrolyte in terms of its overall performance for photovoltaic cells. Mass transport processes may prove to be the rate-limiting factor for such electrolytes, unless the concentration of the photo-active redox component can be increased and the solvent viscosity reduced. Acid-base surface chemistry of n-GaAs as occurs in aqueous systems, has been found present and its consequences will be further explor… more

Geology and Uranium Evaluation of the Precambrian Quartz-Pebble Conglomerates of the Needle Mountains, Southwest Colorado: Final Report

Description: From purpose of study: The Vallecito Conglomerate of the Needle Mountains area in southwestern Colorado was studied to evaluate the uranium potential of the unit and to test the applicability of the uraniferous Precambrian pebble-conglomerate exploration model in this area. The main thrust of this project is the Vallecito Conglomerate, but the Uncompahgre Formation, which is also in the Needle Mountains area has basal conglomerate that was investigated in a reconnaissance mode. Five specific ob… more

Variability Within the Ocean-Atmospheric System Over the North Pacific

Description: Characteristics of the oceanic mixed layer over the North Pacific were examined utilizing a number of statistical methods. Based on the analyses of twelve years of data, a quasi-meridional differentiation (QMD) in sea surface temperature (SST) spectra across the North Pacific was observed. The SST spectra became increasingly red as an increasing function of latitude. A strong 21 to 26 day cycle in SST anomalies is discussed which may be a reflection of heat fluxes. These fluxes also vacillate s… more

Technical Progress Report, November 1, 1979-October 31, 1980. Report Npl-865. [Univ. Of Colorado]

Description: Work carried out at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory of the University of Colorado from November 1, 1979 through October 31, 1980 is summarized. Emphasis was on light ion reaction studies with the AVF cyclotron. The high resolution magnetic spectrometer has allowed studies of nucleon transfer, scattering, and charge exchange reactions throughout the periodic table. More experiments have been run with solid state counters this year than has been the case recently, as a broad range spectra of the l… more

Analysis of Stream Quality in the Yampa River Basin, Colorado and Wyoming

Description: From introduction: This report relates to the first of the above objectives by describing stream quality in the Yampa River basin through 1976, with particular emphasis on conditions from August 1975 through September 1976. The content of this report is, at times, relatively technical. This is intentional. The report is aimed not at planners and decision makers but rather at those persons assigned the task of having to design, implement, and interpret a river basin assessment. The techniques an… more

Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Stream Sediments for Mineral Resources from the Craig NTMS Quadrangle, Colorado

Description: Abstract: Multivariate statistical analyses were carried out on Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance data from the Craig quadrangle, Colorado, to support the National Uranium Resource Evaluation and to evaluate strategic or other important commercial mineral resources. A few areas for favorable uranium mineralization are suggested for parts of the Wyoming Basin, Park Range, and Gore Range. Six potential source rocks for uranium are postulated based on factor score mapping. Vanadi… more

Cross-Spectral Study of the Spatial Relationships in the North Pacific Sea-Surface Temperature Anomaly Field. Report No. 23

Description: Cross-spectral analysis is used to examine the dependence of the temporal covariation of sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies at pairs of spatially separated points in the North Pacific on (1) the time scale of the variations, (2) the relative displacement of the points and (3) their location within the North Pacific basin. Spatial scales considered here range from 1000 kilometers up to the width of the basin. The study focuses on cross-spectral estimates for the interannual frequency band, … more
