Ground Water Test Well A, Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada: A Summary of Lithologic Data, Aquifer

Description: Abstract: "ground-water test well A was drilled to a depth of 1,870 feet with rotary and cable-tool equipment. Only alluvial materials were penetrated. These were saturated below 1,605 feet. Pumping and bailing tests indicate that the minimum transmissibility of the alluvium is about 800 gallons per day per foot. The specific capacity was 1.9 gallons per minute per foot of drawdown after 1 hours of pumping at rates of both 41 and 60 gallons per minute. A suite of geophysical logs, a summary of … more

Close-in Air Blast from a Row Charge in Basalt

Description: From abstract: Close-in air blast measurements were made on the Dugout shot. Major constituents of the blast wave were the ground-shock-induced pulse and the pulse from venting gases. The ground-shock-induced pulse was the dominant one at all stations.

Borehole Gravity Meter Observations in Drill Hole UCe-18, Hot Creek Valley, Nye County, Nevada

Description: Abstract: "Drill hole UCe-18 was successfully logged with the U.S. Geological Survey-La Coste Romberg borehole gravity meter to a depth of 6,488 feet. That density increases with depth is apparent in both the alluvium and volcanic rock. The in situ density of the alluvium measured by the gravity meter ranges from 1.77 to 2.34 gm/cc; the lake beds beneath the alluvium have a density of 2.22 gm/cc; and the rhyolitic rocks range in density from 2.26 to 2.47 gm/cc. The average density determined fr… more

Underground Effects in the U12n.02 and U12n.03 Drifts, from the Midi Mist (U12n.02) Test, Area 12, Nevada Test Site

Description: Abstract: "The Midi Mist (U12n.02) event produced rock spalling along bedding, joint, and fault planes in the U12n.02 and U12n.03 drifts. The spalling in the U12n.02 drift started at about construction station 12 + 75 and was continuous toward the W.P. Most of the spalling in the U12n.03 drift occurred between C.S. 0 + 00 and 7 + 00."
