A study of the use of various high-lift devices on the horizontal tail of a canard airplane model as a means of increasing the allowable center-of-gravity travel

Description: Report presenting an investigation to study the use of various high-lift devices on the horizontal tail of a canard airplane model as a means of increasing the allowable center-of-gravity travel. The results indicated that the large increases in allowable center-of-gravity travel could be obtained using the devices. Results regarding the basic aerodynamic data, effect of tail configuration on the allowable center-of-gravity travel, and a comparison of measured and predicted values of the allowa… more

Wind-Tunnel Investigation to Determine the Aerodynamic Characteristics in Steady Roll of a Model at High Subsonic Speeds

Description: Report presenting aerodynamic characteristics in steady roll on a complete model and its component parts. The model consisted of a wing and horizontal tail with a 45 degree sweepback at the quarter-chord line, a taper ratio of 0.6, an aspect ratio of 4, and NACA 65A006 airfoil sections parallel to the plane of symmetry. Results regarding rolling moment due to rolling, yawing moment due to rolling, and lateral force due to rolling are provided.

Operational characteristics of the Purex and Redox plutonium continuous concentrator package

Description: The continuous plutonium concentration facilities proposed for the Purex Plant consist of a stripper-concentration unit in which the organic is removed and a portion of the required evaporation is accomplished, plutonium concentrator (No. 1 Pu Conc.) in which the final plutonium concentrate is produced, and a second concentrator which re-evaporates the totally condensed overhead from the No. 1 Pu Concentrator. In this report the Purex concentration ``package`` has been examined to determine whe… more

A program for testing raw Columbia River water as a pile coolant

Description: The potentialities of unfiltered Columbia River water as a pile coolant have been discussed in a recent survey of the available information on the subject. The survey report points out the gains which the use of unfiltered water offers, and proposes a logical framework of treatment by chemical additives which appears to have a reasonable probability of successfully developing a far less expensive pile coolant. A comprehensive testing program is now being initiated to obtain the required experim… more
