Safety assessment document for the Dynamic Test Complex B854

Description: A safety assessment was performed to determine if potential accidents at the 854 Complex at Site 300 could present undue hazards to the general public, personnel at Site 300, or have an adverse effect on the environment. The credible accidents that might have an effect on these facilities or have off-site consequences were considered. These were earthquake, extreme wind (including missiles), lightning, flood, criticality, high explosive (HE) detonation that disperses uranium and beryllium, spon… more

SNAP 19 Viking Program. Bimonthly Technical Progress Report, December 1980-January 1981

Description: Monitoring of power systems performance data for Pioneer 10 and Pioneer Saturn spacecrafts continued. Net power output for either system during mid-January of 1981 was 112 watts. Power degradation has, for several years, been stable between 4 and 5 watts per year. Viking 1 Lander data acquisition has been resumed following the conclusion of Saturn encounter activities. Figures show the Mars Lander performance history of Viking 1. These data include both the minimum and maximum data for each of … more

Tables and graphs of photon-interaction cross sections from 0. 1 keV to 100 MeV derived from the LLL evaluated-nuclear-data library

Description: Energy-dependent evaluated photon interaction cross sections and related parameters are presented for elements H through Cf(Z = 1 to 98). Data are given over the energy range from 0.1 keV to 100 MeV. The related parameters include form factors and average energy deposits per collision (with and without fluorescence). Fluorescence information is given for all atomic shells that can emit a photon with a kinetic energy of 0.1 keV or more. In addition, the following macroscopic properties are given… more

Calorimetry end-point predictions

Description: This paper describes a portion of the work presently in progress at Rocky Flats in the field of calorimetry. In particular, calorimetry end-point predictions are outlined. The problems associated with end-point predictions and the progress made in overcoming these obstacles are discussed. The two major problems, noise and an accurate description of the heat function, are dealt with to obtain the most accurate results. Data are taken from an actual calorimeter and are processed by means of three… more

Fusion-reactor aspects of the compact torus

Description: This paper summarizes several studies of fusion reactors based on the compact torus (CT). A wide variety of reactor configurations can be projected within present understanding of the possible types of CT and their macroscopic stability and confinement properties. Three types of CT are considered here, the field-reversed-configuration having B/sub Toroidal/ = 0, the Spheromak with B/sub T/ not equal to 0, and CT's formed with particle rings. For each type, either fixed or moving-ring possibilit… more

FTC data analysis. [Federal Trade Commission]

Description: Manufacturers of 5 major consumer products submitted energy efficiency and related data to the Federal Trade Commission during late 1979 and early 1980 in response to energy-efficiency labeling and representations requirements. This report documents an analysis of these data as conducted by Vitro Laboratories. Data were submitted on five products: furnaces, water heaters, room air conditioners, refrigerators and refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. The submittals include information on manufact… more
