14CO2 INCORPORATION INTO THE NUCLEIC ACIDS OF SYNCHRONOUSLYGROWING CHLORELLA CELLS

Description: A study of the incorporation of {sup 14}CO{sub 2} into cell components of synchronously growing Chlorella pyrenoidosa has shown that DNA is synthesized primarily during the latter stages of the cell cycle prior to cell division. RNA was synthesized at an approximately equal rate during each of the three phases of the cell growth studied. No major differences were noted in the incorporation of {sup 14}CO{sub 2} into the soluble cell components in these long-term incorporation studies.

Description: This report covers the efforts of the Laboratory in an investigation of the graphite distortion in the ``C`` reactor at Hanford. The particular aspects of the problem to be covered by the Laboratory were possible ``fixes`` to the control rod sticking problem caused by VSR channel distortion.

Preliminary report on the tensile properties of plutonium

Description: Preliminary data have been obtained on the effect of temperature on the tensile properties of a Pu-0.9 w/o Ga delta stabilized alloy. Contoured castings for tensile specimen fabrication were obtained by pouring in vacuo from 900 {degrees}C into a MgO coated graphite mold heated to 475-500 {degrees}C.
