The Mechanical Properties of Beta-Quenched Uranium at Elevated Temperatures

Description: The creep strength and tensile properties-were determined in vacuum for beta-quenched, derby uranium. The stresses to produce a secondary creep rate of- 0.0001 per cent per hr at 100, 250, 400, and 500 deg C were 48,000, sile strengths were 114,500, 35,100, 11,100, and 8,500 psi at temperatares of 28, 300, 500, and 700 deg C, respectively. The creep and tensile strengths decrease quite rapidly with increasing temperature in the temperatare range 250 to 400 deg C.

Reflector Moderated Solid Fuel Element Sodium Cooled Reactor Critical Mass vs. Power Density

Description: This is the sixth of seven reports to be issued on the parametric studies of reflector-island moderated and core moderated solid fuel element reactors. The power distribution and hence fuel volume were varied for the optimum island size reflector moderated reactor. The effect on the critical mass, power distribution and neutron leakage was determined and is plotted in Figures 1, 2, and 3.

Flight and Preflight Tests of a Ram Jet Burning Magnesium Slurry Fuel and Utilizing a Solid-Propellant Gas Generator for Fuel Expulsion

Description: Data obtained from the first flight test of a ram jet utilizing a magnesium slurry fuel are presented. The ram jet accelerated from a Mach number of 1.75 to a Mach number of 3.48 in 15.5 seconds. During this period a maximum values of air specific impulse and gross thrust coefficient were calculated to be 151 seconds and 0.658, respectively. The rocket gas generator used as a fuel-pumping system operated successfully.

Incompressible Flutter Characteristics of Representative Aircraft Wings

This study was made using the electric-analog computer at the California Institute of Technology.
