(Fission product transport experiments (HFR-B1))

Description: Travel to the JRC Petten was for the purpose of discussing the HFR-B1 experiment and post irradiation activities. Technical assessment of the experiment strongly supports the concept of enhanced fission gas release at temperatures above 1100{degree}C, the extensive release of stored fission gas at water vapor levels postulated in accident scenarios, an increase in the steady-state fission gas release under hydrolyzing conditions, and an increase in gas release during thermal cycling. Savannah River Laboratory Seepage Basins: Waste site assessment report

Description: This Waste Site Assessment for the SRL Seepage Basins is the second in a series of documents being prepared to support development of an appropriate closure plan for these basins. The closure of these basins will be designed to provide protection to human health and the environment and to meet the provisions of the Consent Decree. A Technical Data Summary for these basins has already been submitted as part of the Consent Decree. This Site Assessment Report includes a waste site characterization… more

Raising the acceptance of the AP2-line

Description: The 120 GeV Main Ring proton beam collides with the target at the end of the AP-1 line and creates antiprotons and other secondary particles. The AP-2 line transfers the negative particles from the target to the Debuncher. To provide a bigger antiproton stack size in the Accumulator, both the Debuncher as well as the AP-2 line acceptance have to be raised. This is a proposal for the improvement of the AP-2 line acceptance. The first part of the memo presents an acceptance examination of the exi… more

Calculation of beam sweeping effect for the Fermilab antiproton source

Description: The problems arising from targeting high intensity small-sigma proton pulses for antiproton production can be reduced by the beam sweeping on the target. The presented results of analytical estimations and of the full-scale Monte Carlo studies indicate a significant efficiency of diluting the beam energy deposition. These results are useful to obtain optimum design parameters for various magnetic elements to be put in at the upstream end of the target to develop a beam sweeping system. 8 refs.,… more

Aerated atomization of coal water slurry

Description: In order to better understand the process of slurry atomization, it is important to observe the influence of fluid non-Newtonian rheological behavior on the spray formation process. As a first step, glycerin-water solutions have been atomized. This report describes findings of photographs taken during atomization. 19 figs.

LAr Dewar Condensing Coils at D0

Description: These internal coils are used to condense and cool the gaseous argon contained in the LAr storage dewar at D0, at a rate not to exceed 40KW. The coolant is LN{sub 2}, piped in from another, similar, dewar of 36-feet higher elevation (see Diagram A). The specific design of the coils are outlined in Process Engineering drawing C-32545, attached. The material components are as follows. The internal coil piping material is constructed of 165-feet of 1 1/2-inch NPS schedule 40 pipe, of type 5083 alu… more
