The Phospholipase B Response in Mice Infected With Fasciola Hepatica and Histochemical Demonstration of the Enzyme Source

Description: The phospholipase B activity was assayed in the small intestines, spleen and liver/bile duct of nonsensitized and sensitized mice infected with Fasciola hepatica. The primary infection resulted in a significant increase in phospholipase B activity in the small intestine, spleen and liver/bile duct over that of uninfected control animals. Phosphorylation of Nonmuscle Myosin by Calcium-Dependent and Independent Protein Kinases

Description: Nonmuscle myosin from bovine thymus was purified, characterized , and phosphorylated with MLCK, H4PK, and Protein Kinase C. Phosphorylation occured exclusively on the myosin regulatory light chain. Phosphorylation by MLCK and H4PK resulted in the activation of the MgATPase activity as well as filament assembly of nonmuscle myosin.

A Proposed Molecular Mechanism for the Activation of a Calcium/Phospholipid-Dependent Protein Kinase in P1798 Lymphosarcoma

Description: Calcium/phospholipid-dependent protein kinase (PKC) was purified from P1798 lymphosarcoma. It was demonstrated that uncomplexed calcium and uncomplexed phosphatidylserine are the activators, that the activation of PKC requires that calcium bind first, that the activation of PKC requires that calcium bind first, that high calcium concentrations inhibit PKC activation, and that calcium inhibition can be overcome by phosphatidylserine.

Boron Deficiency and its Associated Perturbation of Nucleotide Metabolism in Tomato Plants

Description: The effect of boron deficiency was studied in tomato plants grown hydroponically. Morphological studies showed that boron deficiency in the root system caused a cessation of root elongation, browning and thickening of root tips, the formation of branch roots close to the apex and decrease in the overall size of the root. Temperature Tolerance of Freshwater Fish Exposed to Water-Borne Cadmium

Description: Lethal toxicity values (96 h LC50; mg Cd/L) for the test species were similar: Lepomis cyanellus, 11.52; Notropis lutrensis, 6.62; Pimephales promelus, 3.58. However the effects of cadmium concentration and exposure time on temperature tolerance varied between species.
