Effects of a Methylcholanthrene-Induced Lymphosarcoma on the Blood of DBA/1J Mice

Description: This investigation was concerned with characterizing a tumor line induced and maintained in this laboratory. Various chemical assays, cell counts, and electron microscopy were the methods employed to characterize the blood of mice bearing the tumor at days 3, 6, 9, and 12 after injection of the 1.2 x 10^8 tumor cells.

The Recombination Rate Coefficient of Molecular Helium Ions in a Pulsed Afterglow at 1.86 Torr

Description: The recombination rate coefficient for molecular helium ions has been measured in a pulsed afterglow at 1.86 Torr as a function of electron temperature and electron density without making a priori assumptions about the functional dependence. The concentrations of the molecular ions and electrons were measured and the source terms for the molecular ions were included in the rate equation.

Some Acute Effects of X-Irradiation (LD100) on Plasma and Adrenal Tissue Histamine in Rats

Description: The effects of a lethal dose (1380 r) of X-irradiation on plasma and adrenal tissue histamine levels of rats were studied. The plasma histamine response was triphasic (increase at 1-3 hours, decrease at 5 and 9 hours and return to control at 24 hours post-irradiation). The adrenal tissue histamine response was found to be biphasic (decrease at 1 to 9 hours and a return to control level at 24 hours post-irradiation).

Completing the Space of Step Functions

Description: In this thesis a study is made of the space X of all step functions on [0,1]. This investigation includes determining a completion space, X*, for the incomplete space X, defining integration for X*, and proving some theorems about integration in X*.

A Probabilistic Model for Evaluating Capital Investment Proposals for Petroleum Refineries

Description: The purpose of this study was to develop a probabilistic model that could be used by petroleum refiners to evaluate the economic potential of refinery capital investment proposals. The following two requirements were placed on the development at the outset: (1) that the model use linear programming to simulate refinery operations; and (2) that the model keep computer time within reasonable bounds. A probabilistic model was developed that requires the following steps for its application: (1) use… more

The Activity of Certain Facial Muscles in the B-Flat Soprano Clarinet Embouchure: An Exploratory Study Utilizing Electromyography

Description: The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of facial muscle activity in forming and maintaining the soprano clarinet embouchure. The purposes of the study are to collect and analyze data in the following areas: 1. Activity of the following muscles during performance on the clarinet: (1) upper orbicularis oris, (2) lower orbicularis oris, (3) upper half of the buccinator, and (4) lower half of the buccinator. Muscular activity is read as electronic potential and is presented … more

Music for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble

Description: The first movement material is presented by the ensemble and subsequently developed by the saxophone. A majority of the saxophone passages are supported by the ensemble with unaccompanied solo passages kept to a minimum. The various sections are based more on differences in pitch and rhythm than orchestration and harmony.

A Visual-Aural Self-Instructional Program: In Pitch-Error Detection for Student Choral Conductors

Description: This study seeks to develop and evaluate a program of selfinstructional drill materials for improving the ability of students to detect pitch errors in choral singing. The specific purposes of the study are as follows: (1) To develop and validate a visualaural test for pitch-error detection; (2) to develop a visual-aural, self-instructional program for improving the ability of students to detect pitch errors; and (3) To determine whether the program of self-instructional drill materials modifie… more

The Effect of Personality Characteristics on Information Selection, Utilization and Decision-Making

Description: The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of determining the role of personality in information acquisition and utilization during the decision-making process, by replicating the Schkade-Scarborough box design and the Kernan-Mojena chip design, using an expanded battery of psychological tests. This investigation seeks to accomplish the following objectives: (1) review and summarize the present literature which relates personality and binary decision behavior; (2) review and… more
