Description: As a result of the upheaval in educational theories and practices, many new philosophies and methods have appeared. Among them is the subject of integration in the elementary school curriculum. Much has been written regarding its meaning and application. An interest in the subject prompted the writer to choose as a thesis subject the problem of what could be done to integrate the fifth-grade curriculum through the language arts subjects in the Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, Denton, Texas.

A Study of Dark Adaption of Freshman High School Girls and Boys

Description: The children in this study were tested in their normal environment and without any effort to change this environment. It was felt that only through such an experiment could any evidence be gained regarding the influence of climatic conditions on the dark adaption of adolescents.

Losses of Vitamin C Content During the Cooking of Summer Squash

Description: The general food supply is usually the source of vitamin C for many people, and since squash is a common food in the popular diets of Texans and is so generally grown over the state, this study has a two-fold purpose: (1) to ascertain the amount of vitamin C in the two varieties of squash most commonly used as food in Texas, and (2) to determine the effect of various methods of cooking upon the vitamin C content of these two varieties of squash.

The Use of the Bio-Photometer in Determining the Dark Adaptation of Pre-School Age Children

Description: Because of the paucity of evidence with regard to dark adaptation and the vitamin A status of pre-school children, this study is made. The purpose, therefore, is to add to the available data on this subject through an investigation of the bio-photometer as a means of detecting vitamin A deficiency in pre-school children.
