The Nuclear Spins and Magnetic Moments of Certain Gold and Silver Isotopes

Description: An atomic-beam magnetic-resonance apparatus operating on the flop-in principle was used to measure the nuclear spins and hyperfine-structure separations of the /sup 2/S/sub 1/2, electronic ground state for several radioactive isotopes of silver and gold. The results of these experiments, together with calculated values of the nuclear magnetic-dipole moments, are given (auth)

The Kinetics and Stability of Fast Reactors With Special Considerations of Nonlinearities

Description: The dynamic behavior of a fast reactor, when the neutron flux is considered as a function of time, is considered. The kinetics of a fast reactor can be grouped into three distinct areas of interest; the first being the normal operating conditions where all the changes are brought about in a slow manner. and the resulting flux changes being small in comparison with the steady stuff flux. Since the available reactivity and the power density of most large thermal reactors is so small, and the heat… more

Hydrodynamic Aspects of Boiling Heat Transfer

Description: A study concerned with the determination of the limiting hydrodynamic conditions which characterize nucleate and transitional boiling was conducted. The critical heat flux and the minimum heat flux are derived from these hydrodynamic limits. Results of investigations of nucleate boilin g are discussed and the theory of bubble growth is extended to include the effect of non-uniform temperature fields. An equation is derived for the product bubble diameter times frequency of bubble emission, and … more

A Water Quality Study of Lake Texoma

Description: A series of four stations for sampling the waters of the Red Rivers and Lake Texoma was established. Water samples from top, middle, and bottom levels of these four stations were taken on monthly intervals during periods of homothermousity and on two-week intervals during periods of thermal stratification. These samples were analysed for the cations sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, and for the anions normal carbonate, bicarbonate, sulfate, chloride, nitrate, water hardness (expressed … more

Jefferson Davis and the Confederate Governors

Description: One facet of the problem of state rights within the Confederacy is revealed through a study of the relations between President Davis and the war governors. As a means of investigating those relationships this study considers their attempts to solve several major problems. This work seeks to discover the degree of co-operation which existed between the President and governors and to establish what effect this co-operation or lack of it had on the failure of the states to support many important c… more

Psychological Sex and Sociometric Nomination

Description: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the psychological sex role of a person making sociometric nominations to the psychological sex role of such persons nominated. It was hypothesized that similar psychological and biological sexed persons would choose each other as friends and that similar psychological but opposite biological sexed persons would reject each other as non-friends.

Signs of Paranoid Schizophrenic Behavior on the Bender-Gestalt Test

Description: The problem of this study was to isolate a constellation of "signs" or items of behavior of individuals on the Bender-Gestalt test and to determine if these signs will discriminate significantly between one patient category, paranoid schizophrenia, and three other major diagnostic categories.

The Use of Art Objects in the Fiction of Nathaniel Hawthorne

Description: This study is not concerned with the evaluation of Hawthorne's artistic criticism but with the uses he made art objects in his writing. Such a study should give suggestions for interpretation of his works, as well as information concerning literary devices and technique in style. It should consider the contribution of the art objects to the literary artistry of the works in which they appear. Such a study has not previously been made.

The Rorsach as an Indicator of Intelligence in Seventh-Grade Children

Description: This study was undertaken in the belief that a greater relationship would be revealed between the Rorschach and intelligence test scores if the factors in the Rorschach which have been found in the past to be related to intelligence could be compared as a whole with scores obtained on mental tests. The purpose of this study was to determine whether it could be demonstrated that a higher degree of relationship does exist between several of the Rorschach factors, considered as a whole, and intell… more

Gustav Holst as a Choral Composer: His Life, Factors Influencing His Compositions, His Place in English Music, and a Consideration of the Principal Stylistic Elements of His Choral Music

Description: "An amiable personality, not himself an unusually passionate man, HoIst has excited more violent passions than any other contemporary English composer. How difficult he is to assess as a creative artist is perhaps indicated by the extraordinary fluctuations in his reputation." For a number of years he was completely unknown and ignored, living a quiet and unhurried life as an obscure teacher. Then with a momentary flash, after outstanding works such as "The Planets," and the "Ode to Death," he … more
