A Descriptive Analysis of the Preludes (Book 1) of Claude Debussy

Description: The purpose of this thesis is to discuss and give a descriptive analysis of twelve of the twenty-four preludes written by Claude Debussy. This paper also includes a brief history of preludes as well as possible influences upon Debussy and his compositions.

Ariettes Oubilées and Fêtes Galantes, Series I and II by Claude Debussy

Description: Not only did Debussy find the Symbolist movement a source of inspiration for his artistic aims, he often selected his literary collaborators from them. Pelleas et Melisande, Prelude a l'Apres-midi d'un Faune, Chansons de Bilitis, Trois Pomes de Stephane Mallarme, Fetes Galantes, Ariettes Oubliees, all had Symbolist authors. Moreover, the poetic style of the Proses Lyriques, of which Debussy himself was the author, is in the Symbolist manner.

Isotopic tracer studies of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis over Ru/TiO{sub 2} catalysts

Description: Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is a process in which CO and H{sub 2} react to give predominantly liquid hydrocarbons. The reaction can be considered a special type of polymerization in which the monomer is produced in situ, and chain growth occurs by a sequence of independently repeated additions of the monomer to the growing chain. A investigation has been conducted to study the CO hydrogenation reaction in order to better understand catalyst deactivation and the elementary surface processes involv… more

Pion single charge exchange in three body nuclei at intermediate energies

Description: The purpose of this thesis is to present new experimental information about modifications to the pion-nucleon single charge exchange interaction, {pi}{sup +}n {yields}{pi}{sup 0} p or {pi}{sup {minus}} p {yields} {pi}{sup 0}n, due to the presence of other nucleons. The results of two experimental studies of pion single charge exchange in the three nucleon system near the {triangle}-resonance are presented. Both of these experiments were performed at the Clinton P. Anderson Meson Physics Facilit… more

Comparison between phase shift derived and exactly calculated nucleon--nucleon interaction matrix elements. [Tables]

Description: A comparison is made between matrix elements calculated using the uncoupled channel Sussex approach to second order in DWBA and matrix elements calculated using a square well potential. The square well potential illustrated the problem of the determining parameter independence balanced with the concept of phase shift difference. The supersoft core potential was used to discuss the systematics of the Sussex approach as a function of angular momentum as well as the relation between Sussex generat… more

Measurement of the Diphoton Differential Cross Section in p anti-p Collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: The diphoton differential cross-section as a function of mass up to 300 GeV/c{sup 2}, q{sub T} up to 100 GeV/c, and opening angle over a range of 0 to {pi} radians is measured. The measurement is performed using 1046.19 pb{sup -1} of data collected at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory using the D0 detector. This analysis considers all direct diphoton states but attempts to suppress contributions due to fragmentation.

A Measurement of Z Boson Production and Rapidity Distribution in p - anti-p Collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96-TeV

Description: High-precision measurements are made of Z boson production in proton-antiproton collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab, using the electron decay channel. The cross-section times branching ratio is measured to be {sigma}{sub Z} {center_dot} Br(Z {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -}) = (255.7 {+-} 2.4{sub stat} {+-} 5.2{sub sys} {+-} 15.2{sub lum})pb in a dataset of 194 pb{sup -1} collected between March 2002 and June 2003. This agrees well with theoretical predict… more
